Inside the Hiroshima Trading SMS->Mark III adapter
![]() |
Recently I was in need of a new adapter for playing SMS games on a Mark III/JP SMS, and I managed to get ahold of the rare Hiroshima Trading adapter on Yahoo Japan. It just came in today, and I decided to have a look inside as documentation on this particular adapter is fairly sparse. It almost seems like an official Sega product, the build quality on this puts those cheap eBay/Aliexpress adapters to shame.
It seems to be wired up as expected, with most of the SMS pins going to their Mark III counterparts. However, it has the same issue as all these other adapters where the reset pin is connected to 5V. As a result, the Master Everdrive works perfectly fine but Wonder Boy III doesn't work at all. This is the exact same issue I had with a ToToTEK adapter over 10 years ago, so I may try wiring in a reset generator as there's plenty of room inside. |
