From:

I think you can tell in some cases, where you can see the carts from below (Nazca '88, High School Kimengumi, The Ninja) that the plastic is not really that colour. I guess if it was actually, say, green coloured plastic, it would be on the outside AND on the inside, right?
anyway, that pink Wonder Boy brings my feminine side out and I love it. what's that Phantasy Star box? a VHS case? it's nice to see the dude made an insert out of "goldenish" paper to make it look a bit less out of place :) |

Yes you can also somewhat see vertical white lines near the edge of the sticker (unless it is a bad compression artefact). They are paint job but they look really cool and obsessively done. That's far fetched but maybe they were commissioned for evaluation of colored carts? I like the Action Fighter, Zillion 2, Super Wonder Boy, Highschool Kimengumi ones the most.

Phantasy Star actually included a strategy guide, hence the bigger box. |

EDIT: Ah, I see he actually cut up the box for Phantasy Star and put it in a VHS case. My bad.

Just to clarify on this old thread, they were indeed all custom painted cartridges. On most of them the paint job is pretty bad, a few are good. Overally the colors are nice tho.
