This page is a mess! We should reorganise it somehow. Maybe switch to forums? Or one page per issue in a secret group? Maxim 8:15am, Thursday 31 December 2009
To add (in the future, some obvious)
- Search: List games in the same format as Games/ entries, then below the detailed per-category search.
- Index: Horizontal separators per letter. Right now it looks like a rough listing but it may be tiny bit better once we have the flags around.
- Releases info is hard work... maybe we should script something to at least populate stubs based on smsall.txt? See http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/PageFileFormat . Maxim 8:15am, Thursday 31 December 2009
- Not sure. If we auto populate then rather use Rupert' list as input. But I can foresee tricky names cases and we would have to go thru them anyway. I'd like to be done with basic Games info first and try to get Rupert in the loop to decide how we process. Bock Fri Jan 01, 2010 3:34 am
- Should we be paginating/splitting this index too? See also Scans.Index. Maxim 8:15am, Thursday 31 December 2009
- Yes but let's also have an optional ALL. It kinda goes along with filters, because if you listing, say, only SG-1000 games, it isn't very practical to view a per-letter listing.
- Index: Various variants of the index, per system, country, etc.
- Similar to how I made multiple indexes for homebrew? Should be easy to do. Maxim 8:15am, Thursday 31 December 2009
- Translations of asian names (in a sort of information box?) + description if applicable.
- Seems good. Often we want to know the translation if it's not a transliteration. Could be done on a case-by-case basis? Maxim 8:15am, Thursday 31 December 2009
- Probably case-by-case. This kind of info can probably be batched when we are have the right person at the right time. For completeness the box could also include the correct undecipherable romaji reading (then it makes i not really case-by-case anymore). Bock Fri Jan 01, 2010 3:34 am
- Systems compatibility informations.
To check
- Companies: shall we agree that games clearly ported from an original (eg: Ys, California Games) shall mention both companies as developper? Bock Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:42 am
- I suggest using this order: Adaptation/Porter, then Original Developper. Which seems to be kind of a standard in various medias industry, and in many cases (eg: computer or 16-bits to 8-bits port) reflect also the amount of work done for an adaptation. Bock Tue Dec 29, 2009 10:20 am
- As discussed by email, we have an OriginalDeveloper field now. Maxim 8:15am, Thursday 31 December 2009
- The games index list has breakage showing 'EditLink' bits near the end of the listing. I noticed that adding new entries shifted the location of the bug, so it is not a bug with a specific entry I believe. Bock Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:34 am
- The main games index is hitting a PmWiki limit (max 50 includes per page to avoid recursive death). We can raise the limit but pagination may be a better alternative. Another option is to avoid using the include for the edit link, just (re-)add the code to the pagelist template. Maxim 8:15am, Thursday 31 December 2009
- Note: I have lowered my initial expectation on standardizing the naming convention for A.Japanese titles spacing and B.Games with subtitles. My plan know is to add as much as possible (there are some incoherency). Later we can "tag" those games with an attribute on the page, see the whole listing and figure out a proper standard at this point. Let's add the other games first. Bock Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:34 am
- The other thing that slightly disturb me is that I would like -if possible- to display original JP name on the top on game page, and the system makes it unable to do without making it the main url. Maybe possible adding yet another field? For Ashura I noted the JP name for the url (tricky decision) now.
- I don't understand. The page could be called SecretCommand-SMS and have title 阿修羅 (アシュラ) (Ashura) / Secret Command / Rambo: First Blood Part II
- Hmm, in this order SecretCommand-SMS will appear as Ashura in the main listing, so you need a redirector called Secret Command to SecretCommand-SMS in this case, I don't see how it would work without another title variable. Bock Tue Dec 08, 2009 9:41 pm
- So the problem is that if we have one "master" page, with redirectors for all other title variants, we are forced to choose that first variant as the base for the page name? So the Japanese (Romaji?) name "wins". I can live with that... else, we may need to do some custom work to reorder/rearrange things. How painful is the current Ashura situation? P.S. Write ~~~~ to sign off after each block to help separate. I am signing to show I have replied. Or shall we move to the forums soon?

- Most new games don't have scan thumbnail on main page
- This is not autogenerated as it is the box front, and it is hard to auto-crop the scan. So it is done by hand.
- 4em1M202 : Renamed from 4em1, scans don't follow, probably same problem as above.
- Simple to rename. Hmm, you already did it :) Tip: some sections filter to {$Name}*. If this makes you lose the scan, you can rename directly by FTP or SSH, or edit the page name to something like http://wip2.smspower.org/Scans/4In1?action=upload (even if it's not a valid page name) to alter the filter.
- 20 em 1 renamed from 20 Em 1, ROM filename not updated.
- Again, renaming is not automatic. (Could be made to be so, but I can see there would be problems.)
Dropping notes and questions here that I solve be solved immediately.
- How Games Releases, how to specify a year only (no month/day if unknown)?
- Thinking... I am using PmWiki's date functionality to control formatting. It automagically handles many entered date formats, although I am using YYYYMMDD as a personal preference. Options:
- Specify, year, month, day separately, i.e. :Year:1990 :Month:6
- Specify some field to control formatting, e.g. :DateStyle:Year <-- may be the winner
- Specify some secret sentinel time value to control formatting (seems evil)
- This is now solved. Date is handled magically by examining how long it is :)
- How to rename this very page to 'Talks' or something. The RenamePage recipe seems daunting.
- Look at the "Rename" link above :) You want the "Move" button.
- Is there an order to the Releases listing from a game page, can we specify it?
- Is using those fancy country flags with gradients straight from a THQ game intentional? We need a definitive sets of flags (from current scans/ or in the mockup db pages with outline).
