Japanese SMS 50hz 60hz mod
Post Posted: Sun Apr 28, 2013 6:17 am
Hello.
I have been looking at numerous tutorials of 50hz 60hz mods for the SMS 1 and 2, because i want to do it for my japanese SMS. The thing is that all those tutorials are for american and europead consoles, and the PCB of the japanese SMS is a little diferent.
Does anyone know of a site with a tutorial for the japanese system, or can help me by telling me how to do it?
Thanks in advance.

All comes down to whether one VDP pin is tied to GND or VCC.

The pin in question is 57 (at least on 315-5124)

Just finished the mod, but something unexpected happened... the PAL games are playing fine, graphical glitches are gone and music plays slower like its supposed to, but the games are in black and white. My tv is PAL and NTSC, my japanese, american and european consoles all play in color. Thats including my CDTV, CD32 and my deceased PAL Master System.
I dont understand, this is weird...any ideas guys?

You are feeding the TV NTSC-50 which it may not support. Go to RGB if possible and there is no encoding to worry about.

Arghh, darn it!, this looks beyond my capabilities. I will just fix my PAL SMS or get another one to play my PAL games.
Thanks guys.
