Dragon Wang (SG/TW), Star Force (SG/TW)

Where will our world tour of Sega 8-bit bring us?
Some years ago we released a unlicensed variation of Doki Doki Penguin Land from Taiwan (then erroneously labelled from Hong-Kong). Apparently the console was quite popular in Taiwan (see some games here) so other games are bound to pop into our hands from time to time. So I got two games recently: Dragon Wang, labelled as Jing Wu Men (精武門) for the SG-1000 (Aaronix/阿羅士). Dragon Wang is an old school floor climing kung fu game and alos prequel to everyone's favorite Kung Fu Kid. In great pirate tradition, the label "Jing wu men" is none other than Bruce Lee's famous Fist of Fury movie name. One could say that there is a loose relation since Kung Fu video games are probably inspired from Bruce Lee exploits in the first place. The ROM is based on the early version of the game (it was later re-released along with Mark III release to change the color of some barely objects from eg: dark blue to white since the Mark III has a darker palette than SG-1000/SC-3000 for those games). Star Force labelled as.. Star Wars (星際大戰) for the SG-1000 (Aaronix/阿羅士). This one is a simplier hack of the Tehkan arcade classic (later responsible for Bomb Jack), where the pirates only removed the copyright information from the ROM (title screen is unchanged). |
