SMS will not read carts

Hi everybody, I'm new and just received my first SEGA Master System, model 3010.
It powers on OK and I'm able to play Hang On and Safari Hunt, but it will not read cartridges whatsoever. I've tried cleaning the cartridge contacts on several cartridges with alcohol, but to no effect.
If anyone could provide any advice on what could be causing the cartridges to not be read and how to fix it I'd highly appreciate it. Thanks!

Dirty game carts are the usual culprit, but you mention you've already tried cleaning them.
Could be a dirty or loose cart slot. You could try removing it, giving it a good clean and bending the pins back in - either that or you can still buy replacement ones.
