Tec Toy Brasilian Games Product Number

aRPi e-mailed us:

Brazilian serials means:
02x.xxx - Sega Master
xx8.xxx - 4 Mega
xx6.xxx - 2 Mega
xx3.xxx - 1 Mega
xx1.xxx - 256 K
xx0.xxx - consoles
xxx.XXx - XX - number of game
xxx.xx0 - means nothing, always 0

Which is partly right.
The last digit is always 0 next to the main product number display, but if you look at the barcode there is the same code except the last digit is different (noted as 0/x in my list below). Does this is some kind of requirement/checksum of the barcode format?

I checked up some of my Brasilian games, and came up with:

Alien 3 None
Altered Beast None
Andre Agassi Tennis 025.420/6 2 MB
Ariel 026.350/5 2 MB blue box
Castelo Ra-Tim-Bum 028.720/4 4 MB
Champions of Europe 025.430/3 2 MB
Chapolim x Dracula 023.430/9
Dynamite Headdy 028.570/1
Ecco - The Tides of... 028.630/2
James Pond 2 028.580/8
Jungle Book 027.330/8
Jurassic Park 028.330/5
Maze Hunter 3D None
Monica no Castelo d... None
Paper Boy None
Phantasy Star None
Phantasy Star 029.010/1
Prince of Persia 027.270/7 2 MB
Rainbow Island 026.360/2 2 MB blue box
Road Rash 028.410/0
Robocop vs. Termina... 028.520/6
Secret of Shinobi (The) None
Shadow of the Beast 025.270/3
Sonic Blast 030.030/1
Sonic Chaos 028.320/8
Sonic Spinball 028.480/9
Street Fighter II' 030.010/7
SpellCaster None
Super Futebol II 023.340/7
Taz in Escape from... 028-620/5
Time Soldiers None
Tom and Jerry - The... 026-150/7 2 MB white box
Virtua Fighter Anim... 030-002/4

Note: in some "None" case, they may be an alternate version existing with a serial number. I added comment here and here for me to see patterns but couldn't.

One can see:
- Sonic Blast/Street Fighter II'/Virtua Fighter Animation, all 8-megabits games, are in the form 030-xxx

- 025 and 027 prefix are used along with 026. I don't know why yet.

- Phantasy Star (the blue box edition) is 029.010/1. 029 may be used for 4 megabit+backup.

World Cup USA '94       028.430   4   4 Mb
X-Men: Mojo World       028.740   8   4 Mb

This is somewhat incomplete, but we can somewhat determine the format as

0ss.nn0

where ss is a size code:

21 = 32KB
23 = 128KB (1Mb)
25, 26, 27 = 256KB (2Mb)
28 = 512KB (4Mb)
29 = 512KB (4Mb) + RAM
30 = 1MB (8Mb)

But: there are exceptions to nearly all of these, which maybe should be checked:

Game Box Serie Esportes Radicais: 023.480 2Mb
Sitio do Picapau Amarelo 028.710 8Mb
Street Fighter II' 030.010 6Mb - may just be on an 8Mb ROM

Note that I'm missing some sizes, and this is based on a possibly out-of-date list and on the scans section (where there may be some mistakes in the product numbers listed).

The nn digits are likely to just be a counter.

Did TecToy use these codes on their other game products? Maybe that explains the number of gaps. The 256KB range is very big, suggesting it was used a lot, maybe for NES cartridges too?

The last digit in the barcode (labelled as "#" in the table above) is indeed a checksum (assuming UPC standard), so it can probably be ignored

MegaDrive games do at least (not too surprsingly). Here's a few I've spotted:

041160 - Super Volleyball
042800 - Sport Games
043030 - Ariel: The Little Mermaid
043330 - Super Kick-Off
044570 - Bart's Nightmare
046440 - Madden '95
047230 - Donald in Maui Mallard
047240 - Street Racer
048070 - Crystal's Pony Tale
051170 - International Superstar Soccer Deluxe
053010 - Show do Milhao

013640 - Chimera Joystick (accessory)
