Is there a hack of GG Sonic 1 with SMS sprites?

Hi. I wondered many times if there exist a hacked ROM of GG's Sonic 1 with the Sonic's sprites well done. In the GG version, Sonic looks awful, while in the Master System version, he looks good, xD.
Does anyone knows if it exists? |

welcome tailsnic! (I saw you in otrolado asking for the repro issue)
I don't think it exists, but it'll be nice to see! |

Hi again. The repro PCB for 8mbit roms is making me nuts, because I don't find how to acquire it, xD. I opened a thread asking if it can be created from 0, so they told me that here is a person who makes them, but I can't contact him. At first I wanted to create the custom mapper, and then I discovered that the code from the ichigobankai's mapper is made by him, so I don't want to duplicate de PCB anymore. In this world we have to respect each others. Refering to the rom, I would like to see it. The sprite from Master System version looks pretty good. Maybe I would do the hack someday. |

About hacking the rom, some utilities like this could allow you to edit the graphics:

The proto has the SMS sprites.

I didn't know it. I supose that the proto isn't complete or is not the same as the Master System version. |

It's certainly not complete, but presumably a lot closer to what you want than a simple sprite hack (i.e. collision boxes should be better).

Yeah you're right those Sonic sprites look awful he seems not to have a nose, and making a hack to restore it, maybe is easier than you think, thanks to Master Tile Converter: http://jmimu.free.fr/mastertileconverter/

I always thought the gg sonic 1 sprites really suck :\

I agree. Sonic 1 and 2 have great sprites but after that the master system sonic sprites sucked imo , sonic chaos for example is horrible. |

I have a problem with that tool. I tried to change the sprites, but the program shows all the colors bad, and I can't see what are the Sonic's sprites. |

probably you can set some the palette, in order to be able to see correctly the sprite tiles

I'll try to change the palete. Thanks. |

Try with the palette you can get from Meka or emulicious.

When I open the ROM in Master Tile Converter, I see this: Even loading palette in raw mode from Meka, the appearance is the same. |

You're seeing all the content of the rom, as it's not possible for the software to tell if some binary chunk is data, program or tiles. Just scroll trough the rom to see if you can see the tiles. Or maybe, they're compressed, so you'll need to tell which compression was used.

I learned about that, it's quite difficult, but I found the tiles, xD. Thanks for the help. |
