Cool, more people are using MAME VGM :)

I also have trouble with winamp, I did everything... in_vgm just doesn't work for me in windows 7 (x64).

edit: UPS!.. the problem is.. sometimes there is a "zlib.dll" inside winamp.. the good one is the "zlib1.dll". :)

Is the 2610 working in winamp?

All chips should work in Winamp. But because you're asking, I tested the YM2608 and YM2610 and it looks like I broke something.

Again I did some testing. It works if you mute AY8910 Channel 1 (via SN76489 tab). You can get similar results in VGMPlay if you set EnableAY = True.

[Non Sega 8-bit VGM Pack] Popful Mail (Sega MegaCD)
Post Posted: Tue Feb 08, 2011 7:36 pm
Another pack using the Sega MegaCD PCM. link
The music is really nice (it's using a YM2612 with cool PCM drums), but you need to set VGMPlay's Volume to 4. The Volume Modifier that the next version of VGMPlay includes will fix that.

It would be really nice, if someone could help me to tag the tracks. I've only tagged 5 out of 23 tracks (just as far as I played through the game).
The desc-file includes the OST tracklist, so anyone familiar with the game should be able to tag them quite quickly.

Enjoy the music!

EDIT: Link changed. It now points to the Project2612 page.

Nice. I already liked the OPLL-version.

I uploaded it a few days ago.
One track seems to be missing (the M1 list file has 11 tracks). I guess it's some jingle as the sound test of Sega System 16 games seems to lack them quite often.

I still have a small request for future packs: It would be nice if you'd avoid VGMTool for MAME logs as its trimming makes the files a lot more huge than they need to be.
I know that it's actually a nice tool, but it can barely handle v1.50 vgms. Please use vgm_trim if it doesn't cause too many inconveniences.

I just updated the pack on Mediafire. It now uses the Volume Modifier and therefore it's a lot louder. (between 2x and 7x!)

Note: The desc-file says 14 February, because I did all changes on that day and just forgot to upload it.

[Non-Sega VGM pack] Vs. Janshi Brandnew Stars
Post Posted: Thu Mar 03, 2011 2:34 pm
Here's a new pack. It's the first one that uses the YMF271 chip. (and only very few games use that chip)
The music is quite boring and emulation takes a lot more CPU than most other chips, but you should give it a try.
Download is here.

Enjoy!

P.S.: VGMPlay crashes when you try to play the second YMF271 vgm in a playlist. I'll upload a fix in the next few days.
Until then you have to reopen VGMPlay for every new YMF271 vgm.
EDIT: Fixed.

[Non Sega 8-bit VGM Pack] Of 8!'s Shooting Selection: Fantasy Zone, SDI and Salamander

Last edited by Sonic of 8! on Wed Oct 05, 2011 7:38 pm; edited 5 times in total
Wow! Three VGM Rips using YM2151: Two from Sega and One from Konami (sometimes I calling Konmai).

Fantasy Zone is a Shooter Game, created in 1985 by Sega. Opa-Opa was the first Sega's mascot.

SDI is another Shoot 'em Up game, made in 1987 by Sega. Unlike others, the game is not use System 16 DAC. All track names are tagged from SDI & Quartet OST CD.

Salamander is another Shooter (\o/) made in 1987 by Konami. Is a sequel to Nemesis (aka Gradius) in arcades. All the names are tagged from the Salamander -Again- OST.

Have Fun!

I uploaded all three packs. Thanks for the lots of new Arcade vgms.
Sorry, that it took so long, but I was quite busy and forgot about them.

You may want to download M1 to test games (e.g. Fantasy Zone) for secret or unused tracks.

[Non Sega 8-bit VGM Pack] Lemmings (DOS)
Post Posted: Thu Mar 24, 2011 2:54 pm
Some of you may've already seen it on Mediafire - the VGM pack for DOS Lemmings.
It convers the original Lemmings, Oh No! More Lemmings, XMas Lemmings and the Lemmings Demo.
The music is very well done and even the special levels like "A Beast of a Level" were included.

Now I finally finished the description file (and the vgm tags).
Download is here.

Best listened on real OPL hardware :) (but the software emulator is also quite good)
Enjoy!

[Non Sega 8-bit VGM Pack] A "Qix"s on my VGM Packs: Volfied!

More one VGM Pack, but this time, don't use YM2151, and yes YM2203 (I think was the first one?).

Volfied is a puzzle game created in 1989 by Taito. Is a sequel to a Qix, and was ported to numerous plataforms (including mobile phones, who I have the game!).

[Non Sega 8-bit VGM Pack] Tetris
Post Posted: Mon Mar 28, 2011 7:36 pm
In the world, are various Tetris games. But anything compare with the Sega System 16 version!

Tetris is almost based on the rare Tengen Tetris for the N**. Is released in 1988 in Sega System 16 and Sega System E boards, and in 1989 for Mega Drive.

Note: All of my rips was reached for 5MB. While this, now I use mirrors to download VGM Packs.

Tetris (S16) at 4shared.

[Non Sega 8-bit VGM Pack] SegaSonic the Hedgehog (Arcade)
Post Posted: Mon Apr 04, 2011 10:00 am
It was time that I made a new arcade vgm pack. (Recently I'm a little more active on Project2612)
Today I present you the music of the first Sonic arcade game: SegaSonic the Hedgehog.

It uses 2 YM3438 chips (actually just 2x YM2612) and a RF5C68 chip (equal to the Sega CD PCM chip) to produce quite impressive music.
There are lots of drums and even some electric guitars played on the PCM chip!
You can download it here.
Note that it includes one track (Eggman's Tower) that's unaccessable in the Sound Test menu and not found anywhere on the net.
I used M1 to rip the tracks, so I got them all.

Btw: Trimming these vgms was just plain horror (stupid music engine).

I attached the additions I made to m1.xml. (just in case a track needs to be relogged)
SonArcade_M1_xml.txt (1.54 KB)
Additional Data for M1.xml to support SegaSonic Arcade

The MAME VGM was amazing! But I have a problem: I tried to logging a Konami Hornet game (Gradius IV: Fukkatsu) but the VGM file don't appear! Other games was logging normally, but Gradius IV don't log. Konami Hornet uses a RF5c400 chip, unlike some games of Konami, that uses So** Pla********* SPU as Sound CPU.

[Non Sega 8-bit VGM Pack] Now in the track: Super Monaco GP and Super Hang-On

Last edited by Sonic of 8! on Wed Oct 05, 2011 7:48 pm; edited 1 time in total
Another VGM Packs was using YM2151, and both using SegaPCM.

Super Monaco GP is a racing game made by Sega, in 1989, with a deluxe car cabinet.

Super Hang-On is a racing game made by Sega AM-2, in 1987. The game introduces motorcycles, not F-1 cars (...).

All of Packs of Shooting Selection post was updated here.

I uploaded all your packs and updates.

Was there a reason for removing this note from the SDI readme?
Ranking BGM is the same BGM of Illusion.

Btw: You can use VGM Statistics for making the readme's songlist.
Simply drop the m3u-file on the exe and it prints you a complete songlist.

OK, I uploaded the packs.
I hope it didn't take too long. (I'm afraid of getting as long update times as Project2612.)

Nice to see some SegaPCM packs.
Also the game engines are always good for a surprise - they're the first vgm logs that got spammed with SegaPCM writes (that makes them so huge).
I'll update vgm_cmp some day and make them small.

Another VGM Pack that use the SegaPCM, because the engine is very weird. Thunder Blade was ported to numerous consoles (including SMS). Because of the horrible game sound engine, there was some silence added on the tracks.

Pack uploaded.

I fixed Name Entry's drums (a few commands were missing (weird), so replaced that part with a M1 log) and removed some silence.

Sonic of 8!, I found some trick for easy start points with Sega Y games. (Some time I'll write a tool for that, too.)
Make a vgm2txt of the second before the track starts, then search for "YM2151:".
The first line (usually something like Ch 0 Key Fraction: 0x00) you find is the first command in your vgm. The delay above gives you the start sample.

[Non Sega 8-bit VGM Pack] KGB (DOS)
Post Posted: Tue May 17, 2011 9:29 pm
Another exotic AdLib (OPL2) soundtrack from Stéphane Picq. The game was known as Conspiracy in the US.

I have to say I'm not 100% positive that the log is correct. With in_vgm, it sounds good and exactly as it does in DOSBox, but the hihats and various white noise instruments sound suspiciously distorted in VGMPlay, which I cannot explain.

Pack uploaded. It's nice to see some OPL rips.

The distorted sound seems to be less present if you lower the volume. Maybe it's because there's some slight clipping. (Overdrive in in_vgm is the same as VGMPlay volume 1.0, btw.)
I'll reduce the default volume for all OPL chips in the next VGMPlay release. I'll also compare it to my SB16.

My first VGM Pack on MAME that uses the SN76489 (chip sound present in SMS, SG-1000, MD, GG and BBC). But, I don't declare the Pack at a "VGM Pack", because of the SN76489 clock is different.

I had to correct some header values. (VGMTool kills them during trimming, but had to do this either way because the current version of MAME VGM doesn't support all PSG flags.)

[Non Sega 8-bit VGM Pack] Hatris
Post Posted: Sat May 21, 2011 9:16 pm
Hatris is not a Tetris-clone, but made by the creator of Tetris.
The pack is small, but I like it's main theme.
Download is here.

It's the first pack using the YM2608. I noticed that is also uses the YM2608's AY8910-part, although that's barely audible.
If you use VGMPlay, you need to make sure that it's enabled. (EnableAY = True)
I disabled it by default because it's rarely used and takes CPU without doing anything.
It's enabled in in_vgm because there's no option to turn it on or off.

Have fun!

Amazing ost, thanks for upload it.

How did you manage to get the sound files? I don't find a way to get a complete Bonus Theme...

And finally, for your next vgm pack... What about another System 24 game, like Gain Ground? ;)

EDIT: I found incorrect names in your files, here's the OST names:

01 - Bonanza Brother's Duty (BGM A)
02 - Stage Clear
03 - Skyscraper Theme (Opening)
04 - Bonanza Elegy (BGM B)
05 - Bonanza-Suspense Theatre (BGM C)
06 - Bonus Title
07 - Thrilling Bonanza (Bonus Stage)
08 - Perfect
09 - Bonanza-Go-Go (BGM D)
10 - Bonanza-Seranade (Ending)
11 - Game Over
EX: Miss <- The name for the missing file xd.

You can find the OST names and its order here:

See ya

Pack uploaded.
It includes the Bonus Fail tune. I stripped the SFX, but I'm not 100% satisfied as the SFX caused some notes to be missing.

Bonus Start seems a little huge for being 3 secs short. It's even bigger than the Suspense Theatre tune.

Btw: I really like your subject lines.

No. Since I have a Dial-Up Connection, System 24, System 32 and System 18 (and possible System 16B) games are a pain load of download time for me.

Pack uploaded.

I optimized the 2 unpotimized tracks and fixed the cuts with some small hex-editing.
I'll keep the unoptimized original files and will fix the behaviour of optvgmrf to make it optimize loop-backs better.

The fading-bug in in_vgm will be fixed in the next version.

As far as I can tell from MAME's source the AY8910 seems to output its sound through the Discrete chip.
But I just guess that it's so.

The next VGMPlay will fix the loud clicks when starting/pausing/stopping these vgms. (and the low volume too, btw)

One of the two games that uses the Pre-System 16 board (the other is Major League).

Quartet has a scrolling plataformer/shooter game, and is composed by Katsuhiro Hayashi (yes, the "Funky K.H"). Quartet II is just a clone, but I don't have the game to telling more details.

I have Rainbow Islands to trimming and plans to ripping Super League/Excite League, because I hugely a Baseball fan! (since in Brazil, 95% of people like Soccer as deafult sport.)

[Non Sega 8-bit VGM Pack] Terra Cresta
Post Posted: Thu Jun 23, 2011 6:48 pm
The infamous sequel to the Moon Cresta comes! It uses the YM3526 (first pack!).

At YM2413 tab, de-activate the Emulate at True sampling rate option (you do this at any time that you play a VGM that contain YM3526 data).

Have Fun!

The games text don't fit on the topic header...

First is Columns. Uses YM3438 and SN76496 (more cleaner than MD!). Second is the lighter version of System 16 Tetris (for Sega System E). Third is Riddle of Pythagoras, one of Over Nine-Thousand Breakout Clones. And last, is Pac-Mania, one of Namco System 1 games.

Have Fun!

All 5 Packs uploaded.
I added a picture to Terra Cresta. I guess you just forgot it.

Nice work as always.
You're the first to make Dual SN76496 packs.
