This is off-topic but let me bend the rules for once :)

I've been working on a game for the Ni****do DS since a few years.
It is called SOUL BUBBLES and releasing today (June 13) in Europe, June 20 in Australia and June 30 in America. The game is difficult to categorize, it's partly exploration, partly puzzle, partly action. It is about a young shaman manipulating bubbles to protect spirits.

To be fair on you, although the game is receiving good critics it is a little easy especially since you're probably all experienced gamers. It's still a good play because it is very original, and it is enjoyable by many kind of people, that would include kids, girlfriends and parents, etc. so that would be a great gift to them also. If you are really into hardcore play there's hidden stuff and unusual ways of playing that can get difficult

Google should have plenty of info and it, and there's a website :
*EDIT* http://www.soulbubblesgame.com/
If you think you're going to blindly buy the game anyway, it's better if you don't seek too much information about it prior to playing you'll enjoy it better.

PS: As of today, I think that the video link is broken on non-english pages of the site. Should be fixed soon.

Actually a serious question, do you know which retailers in Australia will be selling the game? I have had a look at http://www.ebgames.com.au and can't seem to find it there.

Thanks

Looks like a great game, I'll definitly be purchasing a copy when I can.
I noticed it been heavily advertised on http://www.eurogamer.net/, a site that gets a lot of visitors, good to see your publisher giving it proper support. Hope it sells millions of copies!

I figured, if I pre-ordered it I'd get it today while I'm at work and everything would be hunky-dory ;) but it seems the retailer decided to *post it* today, so I'll get it after the weekend. So that sucks. But then again, I already played it through plenty of times :)

It doesn't seem to be pirated yet, I'm sure it won't be long...

Wow, it seems like I'm the only one here who has the game already, except Omar himself of course.

The game is very very nice, but I had assumed it to be bockschwer ;(

@Bock. What parts of the development were you involved in? I would guess coding the engine but did you have any part of the desgin/graphics/script something else?

That interview was so embarrassing. Glad we were cut a lot :)

Flubba, I initiated the project and with a core team we shared all the task of game design. There was no master plan or designer so things eventually came in from everyone.
There's about 150k lines of code, that include the working PC version and real time editor.

Djbass: Notice that the game mini-map uses SMS Power! colors :)

I'n curious actually bock with the bubbles, did you use real fluid dynamics or a bit of graphical trickery to made them bend and deform realistically?

Finished the last level.
For a game by Omar, it is quite cruel sometimes (like the story of the last level).

Rather disappointingly, I went into the big Zavvi (used to be Virgin Megastore) on Oxford Street in London on Saturday and they didn't have it yet. Which makes the advertising somewhat useless...

The Ni****do site (Ni****do.com.au) is usually fairly accurate, given its not even listed Jacko I would say it wont be for a little while yet.

http://www.quikshop.com.au/soul-bubbles-p-25513.html says 27th...

I just got mine, it's nice to see my own name in the back :) and I'm sure Ni****do will be angry if they see "Make Bubbles Not War" there...

The 12+ PEGI rating is apparently for violence. I guess that's because of the bit where you cut a frog's tongue, but it seems harsh.

Makes me wonder where I could have been if i had ambition and wasn't so lazy, I have a degree in computer game design and i'm plodding along in a dead end job being paid peanuts making parts for F1 cars.

Oh well....

I don't have a DS but I'll certainly point it out to the many people I know who do have one :o)

It seems the game is being released through Atari out here:

http://www.atari.com.au/games/overview.do?id=1264

Have any Aussies been able to purchase the game yet?

I received mine today for my Birthday :)

Not had chance to play it yet though. I noted Maxims credit in the manual though, pretty cool.

Bock - I was dissapointed to note that In HMV (biggest games/ music/ film shop in the UK) that Soul Bubles was not in the New Releases section but just mixed in the A-Z section. Also my mother bought it me from Game (biggest game only shop in the UK) and she said it wasnt on the shelf at all, when she asked about it they got it out of a draw behind the counter..

Now i'd like to beleave that thats because it's flying off the shelves and they cant keep it stocked quick enough but I don't think it's the case. It annoys me why they don't give it a nice release in the New Releases section - after all the cover looks great with the official Ni****do mag 93% award on the front!

Infact i'm going to do what Billy Mitchel does with his Hot Sauce and every shop I go in and see Soul Bubbles i'm going to spread it out accross the front of the shelves :)

Quick update for the Aussies,

http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/Product/335760/SOUL_BUBBLES

It appears to be on their website but there is no stock left, so its definitely in the country, its just a matter of getting your hands on it.

Saw this article via Kotaku.
I still haven't seen it in store anywhere here.
Q: Do you need to use the microphone (blow-hole) in it? Mine is broken.

Keep begging stores :)

You only need to use the microphone a single time during the introduction. If your microphone is really broken and sensing nothing, I guess you'll have to use another DS just to skip the introduction the first time then later you can skip it.

EB are hopeless with release dates.

I recall when I wanted a copy of Sega Rally the convo went something like this:

Me: "Hey I'm looking for a copy of Sega Rally"
EB: "Let me look in our system, I'm sorry that game doesn't exist"
Me: "Yes it does, I know people who have a copy and from your store no less"
EB: "Oh hang on I found it, there is no release date sorry"
Me: "I just told you.. it HAS been released already, I know people with a copy"
EB: "Well they must have bought it from overseas"
Me: "They bought it from EB in Aus"
EB: "Sorry, can't help you"

Yes, ill vouch for this as I bought the game for DJBass from EB, indeed they are stupid and they don't have the cheapest prices around either.

Soul Bubbles exists on JB HiF's online store, but its not in stock so I suspect give it a while and it will be back in stock :)

Even Amazon.com has ONE copy with an outrageous price...

Games stores in Brazil haven't even heard about the game...

I would like to buy a copy for my sister but seems like I'll have to wait.

I was in Woolworths yesterday and they have half the games layed out as a DS top 50, Soul Bubbles came in at 30. Which I thought was pretty good as alot of shops don't even seem to stock it. The 29 games above it were ALL the usual looking after animals, Brain Training and Mario cameo games.

Today I went looking around.
JB Hi-fi: Not any mention of it in their stock system, at all.
Toys R Us: The guy thought I was talking about Bubble Bobble.
Game: In their stock system, D (Discontinued i.e. we never stocked it and never will.)
EB: same as Game

DAMN

Ok, tomorrow I gotta drop mum into town. (she hurt her foot)

So, I am going to go through my Game Traders store on the way home, last time I was there Tony (shop owner) said he would be able to get me in a copy. So DMEnduro, would you like me to order you in a copy?

Another place where I can get it is Shintokyo http://www.shintokyo.com.au/ but they require a 50% deposit cause they may not stock the item normally thus they see it as a special order and don't want to take the risk of me not picking up the item.

I know official release date out here in Australia is August 15th and this is before the US are getting the game, it will retail for $69.95 AUD

DMEnduro, the odd thing with JB Hi-Fi is it does exists on their online store:
http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/Product/335760/SOUL-BUBBLES

But obviously their retail stores would not carry what their online store does.

Other avenues for tracking this game down is of course Play Asia.

Seriously out here, its like the game does not even exist!

We got screwed up by shitty distribution. ;(
It's difficult to want to make another video game after that.

Thats ok Bock, Atari outhere are not known to be very good for their PR in the games industry. All we can do is wait and be patient. Don't worry I will get my hands on this game and I am sure I will enjoy it. But at the same time I know how you feel, it must really piss you off. I know if I were in your shoes I would not be happy :(
