The game is still in development even thou the thread says done but it's the best remake ever. You should love this one Maxim.

Well, I'll play it later. I'm not usually a fan of these types of thing - usually there is not enough effort made to exactly duplicate the gameplay mechanics, and then the levels are an afterthought. Level design is really key to a good game. The comments in the linked forum thread seem encouraging, though.

If you want to read a review of the game with screen shots go to http://www.geocities.com/wonderboyland/newgame_page2.htm

Finally Dragon's Trap fans everywhere have a chance to enjoy this brilliant game once again, with extended areas, new places to explore and brand new content to keep the Dragon's Trap fan entertained for weeks.

This game offers all that Dragon's Trap was, with the same basic world design, but is much, much bigger (and harder).

The presentation/introduction seems surprisingly good enough, but the game crash right before getting into play.

System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
at System.Number.StringToNumber(String str, NumberStyles options, NumberBuffer& number, NumberFormatInfo info, Boolean parseDecimal)
at System.Number.ParseDouble(String value, NumberStyles options, NumberFormatInfo numfmt)

I suspect it being related to how the decimal separator is different in some countries (can be a dot or a comma). I'll contact the author about it.

I've played this game and I think that you loose too much health when you get hit by an enemy compared with the original game making it too hard. Who else thinks the same or your opinion on other issues.

what a good remake - harder, bigger, what a retro revisit!!
Post Posted: Sat Oct 27, 2007 7:52 pm
If you liked the Dragons Trap you've got to install this!!
I can't stop myself playing it, it's harder more complex and when you think you know what to do next (using your knowledge of the original), you come across a whole new level layout and there is even a new character chucked on top of all this as well :-)

GET IT IF YOU LOVED THE ORIGINAL IT WILL SUCK YOU IN!!!

The new character after collecting 50gems you fight Meka again with wings who flys and another transformation of shion.

If anyones a true games player then this is for you and making games harder is a good thing,
with most games you pay for, one or two long sessions and it's completed, even Zelda on the Wii completed 56hrs! 40 quid! and San Andreas and that's doing all the side missions.

Games for good players don't see the light of day that often so this remake is a breath of fresh air.

I admit, I have been swearing at the screen and had to try lots of things sometimes without success, but it's the journey of a good game contains these qualities.

Stick this game out and it is well worth it. It's FREE which makes it wicked.

This site is dedicated to retro games; and some of the hardest, addictive and frustrating (and annoying to some) games are from the master system / nes era, enjoy a game that truely revisits that stage in the evolution of games without all the sparkly graphics and that new games seem to rely on.

Give it a try, it ain't easy for crap players but if you think you're any good give this a try ;-)

I liked this version, it was nice playing on my machine... But there were only a minor timing problem, but it's possible to play it atlhough...
I saw that it was builded through Micro$oft.net libraries... which requires Dot Net Framework to run.... so btw it's only compatible with M$ Win 2K/XP/Vista

Well my inital impression was "ugh.. not dragon's curse" because I really don't like that version of the game. But on further inspection it looks pretty well done. However it won't run on my computer :(

So I got it working and it's a great remake. Very challenging too. So how far has everyone gotten, anyone beat it yet? Because I'm stuck. I've just turned into Pihrana Man and started exploring the water level, but I can't make any progress from there. It seems I have to become mouse man under water, or maybe I need to find the sword for breaking blocks with. I tried going to the volcanic fortress but that place was really tough in comparison.

Cool, is it custom made or is that the arcade version of the WBiML dragon with new wings?
Though I have 49 gems now I'm having a lot of trouble just getting to the last boss (the last 1 seems to be on the way there), maybe you could send me/upload a savestate?

It's custom made. Even with a savestate you still have to fight the last boss and on the way out of the castle after beating him find the bonus last boss. Only thing is the level is even harder and you still get the exact same ending to the one you get when you don't.
Email me and I'll send you it.

Thanks, I sent you an e-mail. So you made the bonus bosses? They look great.
When I recieve the tools I'll try adding some minibosses, enemies, new music and maybe bars like in WBIML.

Well I finally finished it so you don't have to send me that savestate :) One of the charmstones took me forever to find.

Btw, I've started remaking some gfx since Vile1011 sent me a "developers" version of the game, and here's my take on the Hu-Man (Bock?) sprite.

If you want to use it just ask Vile about it.

At a guess I would say it would be in 1 of these 2 secret doors (as they are 2 of the hardest to find):

This is one awesome remake.

Any Linux users around here who run this on wine?
I have it working at some level. Game freezes randomly, music stops randomly and cannot place objects with level editor.

I just checked my saved game that has everything and I don't appear to have that shield either.

So either that shield does not exist or it is hidden somewhere very well ;)

Have you finished the secret ending?

Just a note for people who have not played the game, the download at the top of the page is not current. The game is now hosted here:

http://www.classic-retro-games.com/Wonderboy-III-The-Dragons-Trap_337.html

For a review of the game and an alternate download mirror, you can click on my home page at the bottom of my post.

Also if you really enjoyed this remake, then you will likely enjoy the game LizardMen available here:

You need to be Piranha man and then head right through the lava fields, the opposite way to the desert/pyramid where you become mouse man.

It is much harder to get there than the original, but it is basically in the same place.

Hello,
Most of the links on this thread are gone, I couldn't find any download for any recent version of this game. Could someone post a ZIP here if they have it?

Ok so it turns out I don't have the final version of it, as it is not working on my 64bit system (works on 32bit Win XP though). I am trying to contact Vile to get the last version.

Could you post whatever you have, in the meanwhile. Really frustrating that things disappear off the internet because of dodgy/temporary hosting.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I'm reasonably sure that this thread (& LongBombers post ) is one of the the last places on the net that has working downloads for Vile's Dragon's Curse WB3 remake so I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Longbomber and the SMSPower community for working to preserve things like this otherwise they'd be lost forever!!!
