Maybe this has been discussed before, but how exactly were MSX games made to work on the Master System? Did the distibutors have access to the source code of these games and just port them or are they hacked in some way?
...word is bondage... |

I'd imagine it's mostly a hack job; disassemble, and change the port numbers and memory addresses to compensate for the differences between the machines. Then perhaps hack in a controller routine and you're mostly done. Maybe someone can make a new hack, to let us know how hard it is? I think it has to be MSX 1 games only.

I have a SMS cartridge with 60 MSX1 games. I think those you mentionned where already ported (in SMS/GG compilations). Sorry I can't dump them now. :(
You could compare Dr.Hello to its MSX version so guess if it's a hacking job (likely). |

I learned a bit more about MSX: it features a "proper" BIOS to provide functionality for all kinds of stuff; games will either need to have a BIOS added, or have custom routines for whatever functionality is needed. Too hard fo rme :)

Is that because the carts are different in some way and cant be dumped, or you just havent had time to do them? And is Super Tetris the only Korean game to have a rom dump so far? |

Pirate carts are generally harder to dump because they feature non-standard mapper technology, and/or require more of the hardware to be emulated inside the dumper hardware. (The best solution is something like a CopyNES.)
Korean releases: Dr. HELLO Jang Pung II Sangokushi 3 Toto World 3 |
