Sonic the Hedgehog 8-Bit: Changes from Master System to Game Gear
Post Posted: Tue Oct 25, 2016 6:35 am

This is a treat to all of you SMSpower fans!

It was a fun project, level design stuff was a challenge to do (looking at you Jungle Zone Act 1 and Labyrinth Zones).

Editing could have been a bit better as some of the clips had very short duration time to the point you either had to pause or set the video to 50% speed but there was a deadline as today marks the 25th Anniversary of 8-Bit Sonic 1 so today would be the perfect time to post this video.

I hope you'll enjoy it :D

I'm not an expert on dumping GG maps :P

I did get to figure out how to change Sonic's position and learnt that Special Zone is a giant map and only the camera restrictions is based on which area you've started on.

But it would have been a huge help for some of the areas including the huge room with loads of treadmills in Scrap Brain 2, the majority of Sky Base 1 and the paths in Labyrinth Zones 1/2.

I also tend to use gameplay footage to show players the challenge of dealing with different resolutions and why there are changes to the level design.

Nice! Anyone ever figured out what the button at the end of Labyrinth act 1 does?

It's in the video, at 32:25 (look at the monitor on the right-hand side of the Master System screen).
