What's the story behind the game? The Acclaim branding makes it look like a new old game, but the Collectorvision pages look more like it's new homebrew?

The flick screen gameplay is kind of retro/home computer style, so maybe a bit unusual on SMS (Montezuma's Revenge comes to mind). I'm sure the physical release nuts will be happy though.

What's the hardware solution for boards, cartridges and boxes?

Edit: it seems Collectorvison own the Acclaim brand, so it's used for branding their stuff. The game is being ported across a lot of retro systems. Buy it here: http://collectorvision.com/shop/master-system/sydney-hunter-the-sacred-tribe-4/

Yes, CollectorVision brought the rights of the Acclaim brand quite some time ago. They are releasing Sydney Hunter and the Caverns of Death (which was funded via Kickstarter) for NES and SNES. They also make Justice Beaver for SNES.

It´s a big surprise that this game here will be released, I guess nobody knew about this until now. They must be working on this in silence. I like it, looks and sounds great.

They will produce all new stuff.

EDIT: Link with infos & cover! http://collectorvision.com/shop/master-system/sydney-hunter-the-sacred-tribe-4/

I wonder where they're sourcing their parts from! Off the top of my head, the only organization that was actually at the stage of being capable of manufacturing the required parts was db-eletronics.

Either I'm wrong, or they're db-electronic's first published customer!

I really don't think so, but I'm going to ask René anyway...

edit: NO, not his boards.

I have worked with collector vision in the past. In fact, Sydney Hunter in the Caverns of Death was originally a flash game made by me.

I think they are planning a very limited release for the game, but I wouldn't expect to see a finished game anytime soon, as collector vision tends to announce projects as soon as they have a (hobbyist ) programmer lined up.

I've heard the mighty nanochess only uploads videos to Youtube if the game is fully working, also Alekmaul is delivering fully working games (SNES version of Caverns of Death and soon Genesis)

Not sure about how they will manufacture the game, it could take they sometime but they are in contact with pretty talented people and once they have the finished game it is always published.

It's not that hard to make the boards, especially if you pay a professional and iterate enough. If it's unplanned at this stage, and given the production run sizes, it will be original cartridges, new old stock perhaps.

I don't know, but some ColecoVision publishers (Team Pixelboy comes to mind) have been using new cartridge shells for quite some time. For example, see this page and click on Project Story, and you'll see that the use of newly ordered cartridge shells is mentioned. They do that with many games.

It would be interesting to contact them. They might tell where they order them from. They are no competitors because they only publish ColecoVision games.

Yes, but what's the difference? Both are out of production since ages. This means that maybe you can provide a cart to a company to create a mould and get a mass-produced batch, right?

I think most ColecoVision publishers use new shells.

making a new mould is very expensive and economically feasible only if you print a large number of shells - which I suspect it's not the case here...

But what if SMS Power became a publisher as someone asked/suggested some time ago? IWould it be economically viable if a good amount of games is published? For example, you want a certain amount of shells for your games, then another user says s/he needs shells to, and so on, and at a certain point a collective order is placed.

Maybe asking ColllectorVision or teamPixelboy how do they manage shell orders?

I once suggested doing a crowd-funding campaign for a mould, but the high cost of it requires a lot of backers. Also 1985 Alternativo was planning to run such a funding but nothing still happened...

We plan to do that at some point (And other people on the forums also), but being so expensive it's something that has to be planed well.

It´s not really clear. They just said that it´s pretty hard to get shells.

I was awake at 3 in the night here in Germany to get a copy, and then at the release time their site has been crashed. After 43 minutes I was able to reach the site again to grab a copy; that was a though one.

They will release a 2nd batch next month.

Next batch is meant to be coming this month. The money raised through the sale is supposed to fund collectorvision with creating new shells? The current game is using recycled shells. Collectorvision is hoping to have their own mould whether or not this does develop. It could be interesting in terms of asking who the supplier of the shells are (company?), or whether they will sell empty cartridges (doubtful but never know).

Was wondering when the next batch would be, didn't get an answer from their instagram and the website kept saying it would be this month. Looking forward to it.

Poorly handled. Site apparently crashed again. They have admitted to pulling the site down before the pre order. Could even start. U think after the first batch sold out quick. They would anticipate it is going to be a busy site. Now it's been postponed to further notice.

One thing I hate when companies do this. It creates even greater demand, and will be even more crazier next time. As more people will now want this.

The company just put out on their site it's available. No notice now given. Sold out again within minutes. One min they give u too much notice to get in. Then none at all. Considering I'm Melb. So the announcement was at 5 am my time. No pre warning or anything.

As I mentioned this could of been handled much better. Perhaps people ordering and then creating the game based on numbers. Where if they don't reach a min, then refund.

What annoys me it's postponed to further notice, and no notice about when to pre order. If u Check regular feeds. Then u were in luck. If u we r in other time zone, then no chance. Tho k will just give this a pass. Until the mob can get itself organised.

RetroHQ's waitlist for their NeoGeo Pocket SD comes to mind. You leave your e-mail and they work their way through the list. Reportedly it takes months to get one, but no drama, no frustration, no losing sleep hitting "Refresh" for half an hour at night...

Luckily it hasn't yet, hopefully it was too cumbersome and all those both determined and fortunate enough to get a copy are true fans of the SMS.

This proves once more how badly we need SMS cart shells. They could have done a production run in the thousands if they so wished instead of 100? 200? if they didn't have to gut cartridges.

Still no readily available shells, right? If I find something interesting myself I'll report back in the forum.

Thanks for letting us know, it looks that anybody interested could finally order a copy of Sydney Hunter.

I don't see anything that suggests they would make the SMS cart shells available for others. Do they make their Coleco shells available for other homebrew devs? They don't have them listed in their shop.

Would you like to see brand new cartridge shells for Sega Master System?
Like, colored/translucid cartridge shells

Would you want us to always being able to fill the demand for our Sega Master System games?

If your answer is yes, then help us getting our very own injection mold so we can make brand new Sega Master cartridge shells!
And of course, that also means more brand new games as well!

We already have injection mold for our] ColecoVision cartridge and our Phoenix game console, so we know all the process involved into this.

We do have another game ready for Sega Master
It is Caverns of Death, fully done and tested! (it's the best version btw)
Problem is we need more cartridge shells, so instead of recycling original SMS games (a shame!) we want to have our very own injection mold

Here's the deal, you'll be able to pre-order your copy of Caverns of Death and/or Sacred Tribe
Then we would use this money to fund the injection mold
Once all done, we'll ship your games

Is this something you would be interested in?

I've asked the question and will let you know the response. It would be nice for them to support our small community as people like myself as well as many others helped them produce the last couple of batches by donating used cartridge shells.

Thank you.
Wow, if you and others donated shells, I do hope they choose to give back to the community.

In case they only wanted to sell in batches (as opposed to through their homepage), that could easily be solved. I wouldn't mind ordering on behalf of people here and then forwarding a dozen shells to each. It can be another volunteer, of course.

Point being, if they're worried their shells could be used for something detrimental, there are ways to prevent that from happening. Really hope they're the sharing type.

It wouldn't bother me too much to use cart shells with a small slot for an inexistent SD card, but having to pay 130$ for each shell IS a dealbreaker ;)

You could always plug the SD card slot with a dust cap. Perhaps a coloured one would look good, and would make a nice little way of identifying repro games.
