Off The Wall (unreleased Tengen Game Gear game)

I've got a Tengen poster included in a Game Gear PGA TOUR Golf.
It shows games for various Sega systems, and mention the unreleased 'Off the Wall' for the Game Gear. There's even a screenshot - I will scan it shortly. It was apparently programmed by Jun Amanai who also did Popils on the Game Gear - probably among other GG games, so there's chances that he also did the Game Gear version of Off The Wall. Some links: The PC Engine version was also unreleased but a prototype was found. http://www.insertcredit.com/archives/2005_10.html (search Off The Wall). http://nekofan.free.fr/offthewalltest.htm Off-topic patent for the curious ones: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5273294.html Now on to track this guy :) |

That patent at Google. It seems to be for a magical videogame that saves state (like in an emulator) when the power is turned off. Interesting but it'd need huge (for the time, and even now) save RAM and, at the time, a big battery to maintain it. | |

Here's a review from Gamepro (US), October 1993, page 139.

Been there, done that. His website is here. I left a message about two months ago and even e-mailed him, but it seems he's fallen off the face of the earth. However, it does look like someone's occasionally clearing out the spam (yet my message remains intact). |

I know. I came across two. I sent an e-mail to one of them. It's also the address the robots have been sending me spam through. |

The screenshots look improbable to me. The playing field seems to have 4x4 blocks with a background image which would be hard to pull off. The score area looks more to scale - early photoshopping perhaps? |

Good news!
Today I have acquired Off The Wall (for a rather large sum, some relief donations are welcome). Should look into dumping it soon. |

I'm not sure about dates but this could refer to Resume mode contained in GG Popils? When switched on using options menu, on loading the game skips the main menu and introduction cutscene and takes you directly to level selection with the last/highest level you played selected and ready to go. |
