I couldn't agree more. I really hope that the unfinished entries turn into full games, there's definitely a lot of potential there.

I'm very impressed by the entries in the hacks category, btw.

Congrats to all winners !

A nice year, with many entries.
SDCC/c lib have opened a nice door for new homebrews.
Like my 2 previous mates, I hope to see some games/hacks finished in a nearly future.

For the next compo, maybe Maxim could add some rules to post an entry for the dev or hack part :
- give 5/10 screenshots ? (png)
- a (gameplay) video ? (youtube link)

Just to help a little bit our dear Maxim and Bock.
I think they spent many times to create each entry each year, and it's something we can do easily for them.

It's a nice idea, but getting people to meet our screenshot requirements is hard :)

Well, I can volunteer to optimise PNGs for people who don't know how to do that, as long as they get the aspect ratio right, at least. Not even I can fix a 1920×1080 hq2x'd JPEG.

Just use Meka :
Menu Video > Screen capture > Screen capture
or simply hit the Printscreen button...

+ in options : crop and align screen captures to 8x8 boundaries.

There is a number of ways to get proper screenshots, the problem is that a lot of people don't even want to. I tried to start a crusade against them at a certain point when I was a moderator on SSRG, but people didn't like my proposal where I said that who posted bad screenshots would receive a warning on their profile, so I mostly gave up on that these days.

But that's off topic.

It's more an issue with emulators like Kega which emit filtered, bordered bitmaps by default. getting back to 256x192x3bit data is hard. Meka currently has some weird cases where it saves screenshots with non-standard colour values, possibly due to Allegro 5 being hardware accelerated.

Please do not use "crop and align screenshots".

They're pretty good, but you should pass them through zopflipng.

Wow, didn't know that.
Anyway if a MEKA screenshot passed thru zopflipng is fine, it doesn't seem to me so complicated :)
