Mod2PSG2 on Linux
Post Posted: Tue Apr 26, 2016 1:12 pm
Hi,
has anybody had any success running Mod2PSG2 under Wine? When I try, I get this error:

Quote
GUI initialization error.

Exception type: Generic exception
Exception info: MGI: Create font (5, 5)

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to solve it. Does anybody have any ideas?

I also tried using a Windows XP VM, but I was getting a similar, but probably more severe error there:

Quote
Video mode setup error.

Exception type: Generic exception
Exception info: d3d->createDevice()

If anybody's had any success running Mod2PSG2 on Linux, I'd be glad for any advice!

I've found this post before and tried replacing the skin file. Unfortunately it doesn't change anything for me.

Seek wine fonts directory, and unzip these files on it.

I had the same error message regarding fonts, and these with the default.skin configuration solved the problem.
fonts.zip (815.17 KB)
Arial and Courier New

Thanks, this worked! For some reason I was too dense to realize this was legitimately a problem of missing fonts, and to check default.skin for which ones. Duh.

Great.

I also thought that the error cause was more complicated than that at first, but a brainstorming with Martin solved the issue!

OK I'm also trying to run this on Linux with no success.

Since I got the same MGI: Create font (5,5) message, I changed that default.skin file and I uploaded the two fonts in my fonts directory.

With Mod2PSG2 version 2.04 I get the same error - with version 2.05b I now get a different one:

GUI initialization error.
Exception type: Parse exception
Exception info: ParseSpecial(): Failed
Info 1: 5
Info 2: 3

any hint?

edit:
2.04 now works (wanted fonts in a different directory)
2.05b now works - had NOT to replace the skin file, had to make a copy of the two ttf file and rename them *exactly* as 'arial.ttf' and 'cour.ttf'
