Who Done What: The Kremlin
Post Posted: Wed Dec 14, 2005 12:54 am
My Amiga memories are a bit cloudy, but I seem to recall that the Kremlin was an in-house developer for Domark, or perhaps I am confusing the KGB with Kremlin. In any case, these are the games I can find attributed to Kremlin:

Master system, confirmed games:

    Desert strike
Program: MICHAEL A CARR (THE MAGI)
Grafik: MATTHEW HICKS, MIKE ADAMS, FRIGATE BY SAURAV SARKER
    Musik: ANDY TAYLOR
    FX: LACITAMGINE
    Sound: MICHAEL A CARR
    Tools: CHRIS WEST, COLIN CARTER
    Producent: DARREN ANDERSON
Original: MIKE POSEHN, PAUL VERNON, JOHN MANLEY
    Developer: THE KREMLIN

    Super space invaders
    Program: ANDREW TAYLOR
    Grafik: JO MYERS
    Musik: ANDREW TAYLOR
    Producent: DOMARK SOFTWARE
    Developer: THE KREMLIN

    Pitfighter
    Program: ANDY TAYLOR
    Grafik: MATT HICKS
    Extragrafik: GUILLAUME CAMUS
    Developed by The Kremlin

    Pitfighter (Brazilian version)
    Program: Andrew Taylor
    Grafik: Matt Hicks, GUILLAUME CAMUS
    Musik: The Doomsday Machine
    Support: Dudley
    Producent: Domark Software
    Developer: The Kremlin
PIT FIGHTER NTSC CONVERSION BY BIZZARE
Other names found: JIM PIN, COLIN BOZWIBLE, RUSSEL FERRIER, INDRA JACKSON, WARREN MILLS

    James Bond: The duel
RUS FERRIER, PAUL MARGRAVE, JO MYERS, SAWHEAD, WARREN MILLS, ANDY TAYLOR
    Developer: THE KREMLIN
    Program: THE KGB

    Master system, uncertainties:
    Prince of Persia
    CODE J.TRIPP
    MUSIC BY MATT FURNISS
    GRAPHICS MATT HICKS, SAURAV SARKAR
    PUBLISHED BY DOMARK SOFTWARE LTD

    Game gear, uncertainties
    Prince of Persia
    Program: J.TRIPP, K.PARKER
    Musik: MATT FURNISS
    Grafik: MATT HICKS, SAURAV SARKAR
    By: JORDAN MECHNER
    Copyright: BRØDERBUND SOFTWARE, INC.
    Publisher: DOMARK GROUP LTD
Some of the staff is common with Desert strike.

    Super space invaders
    Conversion: TIERTEX LTD
    Grafik: JO MYERS
    Musik: ANDREW TAYLOR
    Developer: THE KREMLIN
    Producent: DOMARK SOFTWARE
What, Tiertex? They are not mentioned in the MS version.

We find here that all games except for Desert strike are programmed by Andrew Taylor.
Interestingly, Andy Taylor is thanked in the credits for Hook, which is programmed by Matt Taylor. Are they related?

One Domark game that is not by Kremlin is Formula 1/F1 championship, which is instead made by Teque London. That could be material for another thread. =)

The Kremlin also made "Marko's Magic Football" for Game Gear.

Comparing the credits: http://www.mobygames.com/game/game-gear/markos-magic-football_/credits

with the first picture here: http://www.thegameengineer.com/blog/a-life-in-development/

tells us that all of these people worked for The Kremlin.

Agreed. I've added the Marko's Magic Football credits here - several of the names also appear in Desert Strike and/or Crazy Faces, both of which were developed by The Kremlin.

E-mail from Michael Carr

Hi Omar,

I'm doing well thanks, it's good to hear from you.

"Tiertex" I believe did the Game Gear version, they weren't actually involved with the Master System version and I wasn't involved with the Game Gear version either. What you will find (and I've noticed this still happening today) the publisher does only one piece of artwork and text for a box and that is then applied to the box cover for multiple platforms.

I just saw this discussion earlier today: http://www.smspower.org/forums/7966-WhoDoneWhatTheKremlin

just some info you might want to pass on:

Andrew Taylor wrote the sound engine on James Bond: The Duel, he also composed the music. Warren Mills and Paul Margrave were the programmers of the game.

Russel Ferrier was the studio head.

Andrew's name appears a lot because he wrote all the sound / music code (and the actual music itself) for a lot of the games there. He was also the head engineer for the Kremlin.

I still play Andrews version of super space invaders, one of the best versions in my book.

Take it easy,
Michael.

According to Mobygames, the Master System version was done by Bizarre. Can Mr. Carr share some input on that?[/url]

I see the NTSC conversion credit for Pit Fighter above. Is that only in the Brazilian version? Does the Brazilian version of James Bond 007 have something like that?

Hi,

Well I never thought I would be asked about my time at the Kremlin. :)

I'm not aware of any connection of Bizzare to the games development, it was in development when I joined the company in April 1992 and was finished towards the end of that year.

Just on a personal note what Moby is trying to do is fantastic but I know myself and other game developers have run into issues when we have tried to correct them, so I take things written on Moby with a pinch of salt on the best of days.

Hope this helps to answer your question.

All the best,
Michael A. Carr-Robb-John

http://www.smspower.org/Articles/SegaMasterForce-Issue1-TheKremlinInTheWorks in case you didn't see that... It looks like Trivial Pursuit is missing from this thread, but then its credits say Teque...
