Anniversary tomorrow! Keep submitting your last minute competition entries :)

Seven new dumps today!

King's Valley / Jīnzìtǎ (金字塔) for the SG-1000 released in Taiwan by Aaronix. This game requires a special adapter released by DahJee that extend the SG-1000 memory to 8 KB (read more about the DahJee adapter for SG-1000). Else it would work on a normal Asian Master System. King's Valley is pretty much in the vein of pre-scrolling item collecting arcade game, Think Lode Runner meet Pac-Man in Egyptian tomb adventure theme. A very game by Konami.

More Konami, extremely rare and sought after Nemesis / Gradius (그라디우스) for the Samsung Gam*Boy / Sega Master System. Did you even know it existed? Port of the Konami's revolutionary scrolling shooting game, based on the great MSX1 port. This is a good testament as to what SG-1000 type hardware could have achieved at the time if it had more dedicated developers. Note how the game title screen shows international title "Nemesis" but the box and Korean transcription use the "Gradius" name. And guess what we've got in reserve for tomo..*cough* later on.

The Cyber Shinobi [Proto] for Master System. This is an early build of the infamous Shinobi milking sequel. This version has different interface, no audio and supposedly less level.

Sky Jaguar (스카이쟈가) for the Samsung Gam*Boy / Sega Master System, Korean released port of the Konami shooting game.

Poker Face Paul's Poker for Game Gear. This is the correctly sized US dump (previously available dump was overdumped with AFAIK unrelated garbage in the second half).

Pacar (パッカー) [40k map] for the SG-1000, mapper variant of the odd Pacar.

And finally we've got a short Strider rolling Demo for the Master System, taken from a newly found prototype cartridge.

Thanks for these new dumps, as always.

Regarding Nemesis / Gradius, after failing at making it run, I figured that the game expects to boot from the last 8KB bank, i.e $0000-$1FFF memory range to be mapped to $1E000-$1FFFF in ROM on startup, otherwise the game simply get stuck. I figured that by looking at the debugger window in Meka, which seems to do the proper remapping automatically on reset.

It seems odd to me as the mapper documented for that cartridge is the msx-like mapper, for which only $4000-$BFFF should be remappable.

Any insight ?

EDIT: it appears I was not looking at the right source code. It's indeed documented in Meka SVN's new allegro branch that this game has bank $f mapped to first 8k page when it boots so it's all clear now, it's just a variation of this mapper.

The Korean realease of Sky Jaguar can be played on a MSX emulator, you need just to rename it with the .rom extension.

If you check the rom, actually the 1st part (0000-3FFF) is useless for the MSX system and the 2nd part (4000-7FFF) begins with the MSX signature (41 42).

FYI the Pacar 40k map dump came from a prototype card but it is assumed to be an existing release (various SG-1000 games came with both mapping, presumably to allow manufacturing to be done in two days).

Hi Omar,

This 40k version of Pacar seems to be the same game as the 16k version.
It is another case of the contents being rearranged to fit the 40k
mapping, but there are a few twists. The list of changes follows:

- 4 bytes of code have been moved from the end of bank 0 to the
beginning of bank 1. This shifts the contents of bank 1, leading to
the removal of 4 bytes of $ff padding and to many addresses
changing by $6004.

- The space created at the end of bank 0 is filled with $34, $39, $27,
$09 - not the expected $ff, $ff, $ff, $ff.

- Finally, the ROM has a "mystery last byte" - this changes from $21 in
16k version to $30 in the 40k dump.

Interestingly, it seems that the code which has been moved between banks
is never actually executed!

So, there are no significant changes between the two versions - I'm
afraid that means you may still find a retail copy. If so, this dump is
simply "Pacar [40k map]".

However, it's possible that the 40k version was never sold. I guess if
that's the case then it's still a "[Proto]" - even though the code is so
similar to the existing dump?

Thanks

Paul
