Sega Card for 3D Glasses - Circuit
Post Posted: Wed Feb 26, 2014 12:04 am
Has anyone ever traced out the schematic for the Sega Card which drives the 3D glasses?

I found scans of the board on this thread http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13935 but it's very hard to make out the connections on a black solder mask.

Awesome!

Looks like a charge pump operated on either nRD or nWR to generate a higher supply voltage for the comparator driving the 3D glasses, clever! In the XOR oscillator, C1 is marked as 100k? Clearly it has to be a capacitor else it wouldn't oscillate.

According to this picture http://www.retrosampling.se/Temp/Sega%203D%20Card.jpg the colour code for C1 is "red/red/orange/white" which would mean it's 22nF ±10% (22 x 1000) if I'm not mistaken.

On that scan C1, C2, C3, C8 and C9 all have the same value. None of those are on the schematic (except for C8, but it's marked as 2.2nF on the schematic), decoupling caps perhaps?

Looking at that scan, I wonder what the jumpers M3 and M4 do...

It changes where the pin 3 of 74HC259 (CARD Chip Select) connects to:

M3 closed it connects to /CE2 from the gate array (card slot pin 13)
M4 closed it connects to Z80 /MREQ (card slot pin 3)

Might assume that M3 means "SG-1000 MARK 3" and M4 means "SG-1000 Mark 4" (What we know as "Master System"...)

Any one able to confirm what the missing caps from the circuit diagram are for (C2, C3 and C9) and where they fit into the over all picture? Im guessing decoupling too.. but would like that confirmed. Here in New Zealand the 3d glasses were not that common and are quite hard to find, so checking against an actual unit is difficult. Ive not got one myself and am wondering about building one as part of another mod ive been working on. Cheers!

*digging out the thread* ^^

FYI: If you like to add 3D support to your Master System II you can use this PCB: OSHPARK.com or AISLER.net

Further informations can be found here: circuit-board.de (German forum)

Well I can now confirm that this adapter board by segatom works in a game gear that has TV out options, either GGTV from viletim or using the RGB out found in LCD upgrades. I needed to modify mine to fit in this spot, but otherwise it's pin to pin compatible and works perfect.
