Just got this one from Japan. One of the best unlicensed games i have seen, full instructions all in English.

So... You're the a***m with 6800 feedback I come across on GG so much. Although I didn't bid on this one. :)
|
Posted: Wed Nov 20, 2013 1:27 pm |
I always assumed Megaman was a licensed game - or am I missing something here?
|
Posted: Wed Nov 20, 2013 7:04 pm |
Yes, it's a pirate copy of Mega Man (judging by the square-ish box, a Japanese bootleg) while the real (North American-only) version is rectangular.
|
Posted: Wed Nov 20, 2013 8:00 pm |
Yes ;) anything that is Game Gear! Well i don't bid on any USA versions. Only Europe and Japanese and anything unusual. I get quite a few direct from Japan. |

Trust me I know. ;) thankfully I am done with Japan other than one last one to go that I've been hunting for many years. Even have friends in Japan hunting for me with no luck.

Bubble Bobble bootleg

I bought this one thinking it was an original. It's hard to see on the picture but all the printing looks off and washed out. The pages in the manual are not well centred, a little cropped sometimes. And of course the cartridge shows the 'GAME' logo instead of 'SEGA'.

A bad reproduction :( | |

Hi, i want to ask about this game cart.
It has a "Sega" on cart, also on chip inside. But on the back there is not patent information. It is some kind of reproduction?? Thanks for your answers. |
|
|
Posted: Tue May 27, 2014 12:19 pm |
That's a genuine cart. Not all Sega games had licence information printed on the cart. Many of the games will look like this. Just a centred chip, maybe 2 capacitors, that's all.
|
Posted: Tue May 27, 2014 1:23 pm |
Thanks.
Im very happy it is genuine ;) |

Hello, this is my first post, I've got three carts I'd like to ask about, and I tried to make a post with pictures but I am not allowed to post links..... :(
I found these today, in the wild! One says Namcot where it should say SEGA and I cannot make out the Japanese writing. Anybody know anything about this one? I've also got Out run with some Japanese writing on it, looks similar to the one posted on page one. It does say sega but only has 'Made in Japan" on the back, is this a real cart? Last one was an Olympic Gold Barcelona 92 Pirate cart |

The Namcot thing could be legit.
Namcot was the home publishing label of Namco in Japan until about 1995. I'm not sure on Game Gear but I know they made their own Famicom carts and at least on Mega Drive (Japan) they had their name molded into the carts where Sega normally would be. |

Here are the pictures.
Thanks for your reply! I hope some gamegear collectors will know. I believe the Namcot is licensed with the help of this forum, pretty boring Mahjong game. smspower.org/Games/PocketJansou-GG Pocket Jansou (ポケット雀荘) |

The Namcot games came in both kind of cartridge mold, some says "Sega" some says "Namcot".
At least I have found those: Galaga '91 [Sega] Galaga '91 [Namcot] Gear Stadium [Namcot] Gear Stadium Heiseiban [Sega] Mappy [Namcot] Pac-Man [Sega] Pac-Man [Namcot] Pocket Jansou [Sega] Pocket Jansou [Namcot] Wagan Land [Namcot] Wagan Land [Sega] They are perfectly legit/licensed games. |

The Japanese writing in he Out Run cartriges just says AUTORAN (the phonetic representation of the game name in Japanese). It sounds strange, but Japanese has an alphabet used mainly to represent foreign words with the same syllabes they use in their language. The way they transliterate the sounds is the closest they can get with the available syllabes.
The characters on the left (pink) column are the characters used for japanese words while the ones in the right (blue) column are the characters used mainly for foreign words and some other uses: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a6/Hiragana-Katakana-Romanizatio... |

That's cool. I still don't know Japanese yet, so that was a cool fact to know. Thanks!

Is it safe to assume that this copy of Sonic 2 is a pirate one? Note that the box and manual have an European design while the cartridge label is an American one. Plus I've never seen foam inserts in a Game Gear cartridge box. Does it look legit for an European cart?
|
|
|
Posted: Tue Dec 09, 2014 7:01 am |
That's just a regular old common as dirt Euro version Sonic 2 that someone lost the inner tray so they cut out a piece of foam to put in the box to hold the cart.

These...just seem awesome to me. I mean, what's the consensus on these? Can people program their own carts or is this something that could only be done in a giant warehouse size machine in Korea back in GG's heyday?
|

It's easy if you have access to very cheap electronics manufacturing. On more popular systems you could have the game list in an n-in-1 made to order in 5 minutes in a backstreet shop in Hong Kong, you just need an EPROM programmer.

Unknown game with detailed / fantasy illustrations

You can spot a few on this picture.
Far left and far right, two on each side. The one near the upper-left says "Basketball" in Japanese The other have detailed fantasy illustrations (in the vibe of Golden Axe but probably unrelated) with Chinese characters. Lower-left says "Kung Fu" in chinese. Upper-right can't read, lower-right "alien something" cannot fully read. Also note the Sonic & Tails 2 and Street Fighter II Turbo. |

The Rayearth game is probably a Game Boy game.
We should assume that was a mixup and the rest is all Game Gear? :) |

Yes Rayearth at the bottom is Game Boy obviously.
The other "unknown" games have Game Gear logos. |

Been travelling for a bit so now I'm home sorting out some of the stuff I managed to find in the past few months, like it's early Christmas.
A bunch of unlicensed Game Gear games, all SMS games based. I have an extra copy of Strider if someone wants it. Cost me quite a bit so wouldn't mind selling the spare one. |

Boxed "Street Blaster" (most likely it's Jang Pung II) with scrrenshots from a crappy Famicom pirate SF2. It's strange that they chose to use screenshots from an inferior version rather than use arcade/16-bit pics.
Boxed, pirate Terminator 2: The Arcade Game. |

I have one of these "Game"/"Super Game"/"Happy game" (all three names in the same box!). Mine is Wimbledon Tennis (shown earlier on this thead, and today I've spotted Cliffhanger and Desert Strike, both using the same generic box. The only difference is that mine doesn't have that barcode sticker.

Pirate/repro Bare Knuckle and Gunstar Heroes. They look legit (at least to my eyes) until you see the "GAME" logo. The "GAME" logo in Gunstar Heroes uses an unusual font (most "Game" cartridges uses the japanese GG logo font)

Ok, we have seen a lot uf "Super Gear xx-in-1" cartridges. Now step aside and make way because here comes the Supreme Gear 60-in-1
So much hype for a cart that has lots of duplicates. It's not mine and I have spotted it today in MercadoLibre Argentina. I haven't treid it of course but from the game list there are obvious duplicates. And the typical amount of typos too. The cartridge includes a menu. It's extremely overpriced at 1500 AR$ (100 €). Te cat is loose. See it here_ http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-629454302-60-en-1-juego-cartucho-para-se... Two cartridges I found during a trip in China.
The one called "Turbo 16 in 1" is nothing special (and most of the time the button to switch games doesn't work) but "Game Game 8 in 1" is just really awesome. |
