Game Gear sound
Post Posted: Sat Feb 02, 2002 8:25 pm
Hi there,

I have purchased a used Game Gear which has a sound problem. On the headphone output, the sound is normal, but the speaker's output volume is so low you almost don't hear anything. I know that many Game Gears have this problem. I have opened mine and have seen that the PCB which is responsible for the sound output uses the TDA2822M IC (which is a power amplifier), a coil and a couple of capacitors.

I suspect that the amplifier IC is broken. Any opinions ?

Thank you !

Never mind, I've solved the problem. Capacitor C7 on the sound output PCB was broken. I've replaced it and the sound works now.
