Well my adapted Monopoly cartridge works great as a flash ROM device; have tried a few ROMs now. The SG-1000 games have *horrible* colours - being familiar with the TMS9918 chip (or the one used in PAL machines) from the MSX range, and the slightly different (but IMHO improved) colours of the V9938 MSX2 VDP, the SMS version was a bit of a shock.

These colours can't be blamed on the 64 colour palette of the SMS; they have simply been chosen badly. Where the original VDP has dark, normal and light versions of certain colours, the SMS has very dark, dark and normal versions. There are no proper light colours - even the grey is too dark! The SMS palette is quite capable of rendering light colours - so - is there any way to change the colour palette in SG-1000 modes? On the MSX2 V9938, you can change the default 15 colour palette simply by writing to the colour registers in the normal way, and the TMS9918 modes will appear with the altered colours.

Here's a suggestion for a TMS9918 colour palette using the SMS colours. This was taken from the V9938 version using the obvious transform.
