Hmm... if it's real then it's very good. The graphics seem too good at first.

I agree with what Maxim said: if this is true, then it's really awesome. On the other hand, such kind of videos are very easy to fake.

Looks real to me, especially because of sprite limits. Very awesome !

Which could be faked. |

The description says it's being played in Fusion, though.

Looks great. I hope that it's a real SMS/MK3 game and that they'll release it eventually.

I think it's real.
If not, how could it have been done? |

My only suspicion comes from unfamiliarity with other versions of the game, to tell if it's a hack on some other platform rather than an SMS original. The use of sprites for the score seems odd, as it leaves so few left for enemies in the top area of the screen. If the rest of the game is so proficient, how would that happen? The music seems pretty good and authentic to the chip, which is hard to fake.

Perhaps i should have mentioned that it's being developed by the programmer behind Blade Buster for NES.

Yes, it's may not be optimal to use sprites for the score. A good excuse is that the original Aleste games on GG and SMS do the same :)
If you look at the Mega Drive original, you'll see how it's tuned down in various ways. For example, the satellites are there, but the secondary weapon (bombs etc.) is missing. At around 1:10 the shooting direction of the satellites is changed. |

Kinda feels like a partial hack of Power Strike 2. Looks great, tho!

How would you keep the score from scrolling with the background if not using sprites without giving up the right most 8 columns? I also think the music sounds quite authentic - especially with the restrictions (not enough channels to play all tunes of the music while the sound of huge enemies being hit is played) |

Right. I don't see any other (fast) solution...
Edit: You can have a single color bar at top or bottom of the screen with sprites on it for the score, with its own sprite table to clip off the sprites from the main playfield. (Could it be possible to do some trickery with the old TMS modi? They don't do any scrolling.) |

This seems to be FAW's website: http://www.aoi.sakura.ne.jp/~starparo/index.html
Blade Buster is available for download, Musha Aleste is not (yet?). |

Every Compile game I've played seems too good to be true. Their graphics and sound always seem to be a class apart from other SMS/GG games. I'm no expert, but based on the Compile games I've played, it looks like the real deal. |

Okay, but this was not made by Compile. It's an unauthorized homebrew port of the Mega Drive game someone did in his spare time.

On a shmup the top of the screen is pretty busy, and it's where most enemies enter so having partial invisibility up there is pretty annoying. The enemy patterns may make this not an issue, if they appear without overlapping. But I think using the bottom 8 pixels of the screen would work better.
I look forward to the release. |

Wow, this guy should go back in time and help SEGA save the Master System. Now if somebody could help him implement FM music, that would be just perfect. |

LOL, did anyone not notice the 2013 copyright on the title screen? |

Sure, but a little text message is easy to make. =)
I think the question really was how much work and skill went into this, if it is based on existing work or completly his own (well except for assets adapted from MUSHA). So we took a closer look back then and I believed it's his very own work. I still agree to me on this. =) |
