In the Korean listing you should see an "edit" icon next to the titles. Because those entries are special "redirect" entries they have to be edited separately. If the transcribed title is changed the pages should actually be renamed. I just did it for Suho Jeonsa. |

So do I click the edit button next to the entry in the list and then rename to change the Korean title in the list?

Yes. If there is no (:title xxx :) directive on the page then the name of the page is used by default. |

Here's F1 Spirit, which is a MSX port.
I have never seen that game before. I bought it now so hopefully it should be dumped shortly. |

I scanned an advertisement for Janggun-ui Adeul (advertises both the Famicom and SMS game). Taken from GameWorld 12/1992.

Does anyone else here read hangul? I can easily read korean though my understanding of its meaning is only superficial. I am amazed at the support that Korean developers gave to the SMS vs. others. And to be honest, these unlicensed games, while a bit flakey in some areas, are way better than the majority of unlicensed games on NES, so props to them. I actually like them despite the occassional glitches and amateur graphics.

The figures are mostly created by easy ports of MSX games, as the Zemmix was the major console until about 1991. As for exclusive titles, the only developer that prefered the SMS apparently was Open. (From what is known We have Zemina 1-1, Daou 2-2, Hicom 1-1 and Open 8-3.) Anyway, thanks to SMS Power, the dumped rate is much higher (10/12 for SMS, 2/7 for Famicom). For comparison, known games originally programmed for MSX are more than 50 (with less than half of them dumped, at least in their MSX format. Some are also dumped from Master System carts only, such as Wonsiin). EDIT: Oh, I forgot the Famicom Go game by Golden Bell, so it's 8 Famicom games... |

Not sure if I ever posted that picture.. I got it from a japanese collector a long long time ago (maybe 10 years) and it just resurfaced as I was browsing files.

Wow, I want to break into his home now (or 10 years ago, in case he sold the stuff in betwen).
Are those all Master System games, or Zemmix cartridges as well? If the former, that would confirm conversions of Eagle 5 (독수리 5형제) and Hong Kil Dong (홍길동), and many unreadable titles. Hong Kil Dong is one of the Korean Zemmix/Gamboy games the least is known about: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/korea/part1/games-other1.htm#hongkildong |

Well I've been negociating since ten years to break into his house with my dumping hardware - but it'll happen sooner or later don't worry :)
But in the meanwhile I could possibly ask for details if you have any questions. |

Are better (and more) pictures a possibility? It almost looks like the middle row is for Korean exclusives. It has Dr. Hello, Eagle 5, Kkum-ui Daeryuk, Hong Kil Dong, Gaegujangi Kkachi, Jang Pung 3, Dooly and Toto World 3, but all other titles are unreadable. Well readable pictures from the back of the box of any more unknown game would also be very interesting, of course.

Was HiCom a licensed publisher? I noticed it published MD Insector X (Gonchung Gundan).

Yes, they were cooperating with Samsung from the very beginning. It seems for the most part they were the official distributor for Samsung consoles & games, but sometimes it was the other way round, with them publishing and Samsung distributing.

Came across this image gallery: http://picasaweb.google.com/dsanford.hesler/KoreanExclusivesCompilationsEtc# Shows Korean Mega Drive-releases, and it seems many of them have SMS games on them.

I am currently in the room with those Korean games (and more new ones) with dumping equipment. See http://smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12968 I've got 40 new Korean dumps so far, and continuing., Taking pictures of all boxes/cartridges. Not excellent pictures but text should be readable and it can serve as good reference in the future. |

I guess Innovation was at 1993 Winter CES. Though there is a sign in front of the one TV that says "Game Gear," Korean Master System cartridges are being displayed.

Attaching pictures from the above link.
( Its really annoying when websites prevents you from right-clicking to save a picture. I used a Firefox plugin called DownThemAll! https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/downthemall/ to get the pictures, if you know of alternative to selectively preview pictures to save it would be nice ) |

Nice... now I'll keep the photos and be jealous for ever..! :(
Btw, I was searching the forum about Korean "Alex Kidd In Miracle World" and from what I understand, was only featured in Korean consoles (in memory) and never released as a stand alone cartridge? Am I right? I'm asking, because I have a cartridge version... |
|
|
Posted: Fri Apr 22, 2011 7:22 am |
I'm quite sure that there is a cartridge version, since all gam*boys I dont have a game built-in.
|
Posted: Fri Apr 22, 2011 7:06 pm |
I think the built-in was only with Aladdin Boy II. (Not 100% sure, though. maybe Aladdin Boy, too.)
|

Heh, I posted the link to the those photos on Guardiana a few days and I've already seen the link and the same photos pop up on assembler and now here. Amazing how quickly it spread. I've contacted the guy who runs the blog with some questions about a few games, but he says right now everything is either boxed up or deep in storage, so he can't really answer the questions :/ Alex Kidd is supposed to be built into the Aladdin Boy 2, but there are two Aladdin Boy 2s - one is teal colored and the other is black. I have the black one, so I'll check it today or tomorrow when I get a chance. I know the teal one has Alex Kidd, but I'm not sure about the black one. |

I used to have the black one, then donated it to Bock. That was the source of the Korean Alex Kidd in Miracle World bios rom that is online. So I'd be surprised if yours has something different.
|
Posted: Thu Apr 28, 2011 6:54 am |
Actually there are three different versions of the korean master system II. The black super gam*boy II, The black Aladdin Boy and the Blue Aladdin boy. But all of them have the same Alex Kidd version built in.
Btw. i just found these awesome pics. I have never seen a complete gam*boy I before. Note that this AKIMW cartridge is the taiwanese version. |

Somehow off-topic question:
Is this 'monster' from a specific game? If so, which? |

SG-1000 versions. Considering picking up these, but no Samsung on the cover, are these liable to be pirates?
Edit: Can't attach as reached upload limit. |

Probably unlicensed. That doesn't necessarily mean you won't find the Samsung logo on the back, though. By Korean copyright law of that time, basically all computer programs whose copyright was registered before some date in 1987 (I want to say July 1st, but could be off by a few months) were technically considered public domain.
Not the very original, but the variant that was used from the 12th-14th print edition: http://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/setpages/basic.html |

During my 2011 dumping tour I had scheduled to visit rigveda and dump some of the stuff that I couldn't access - unfortunately we it was the day after the earthquake and he cancelled. Still I got access to a lot of Korean stuff from Hokkaido. I may still visit him in the future.
Reminds me I've got some interesting leaflet pictures unposted, will do. |
