VGM GD3 tag corrections
Posted: Wed Aug 24, 2005 11:28 am Last edited by Maxim on Thu Oct 27, 2005 9:50 am; edited 3 times in total |
Here's a sticky thread for posting corrections to the details in the tags. Useful information here is:
- Proper track names - Composer information - Japanese composer names in Japanese - Anything else that needs fixing Posts with specific information will be deleted when it's fixed. A lot of information from this thread is related to this; this thread is only really for cases where there is already a VGM pack that needs to be corrected. Hint: correcting GD3 tags is an easy, non-technical task which could be done by someone else. |

The main theme of Triformation is a cover of the cartoon opening song, titled "Pure stone". Sung by Risa Yûki.
In japanese: ピュアストーン 結城梨沙 |

Correct title: 20th Centry Fox Fanfare, composer Alfred Newman arr. Matt Furniss.
Can someone have a listen to the samples on this page and see if there's any similarity to the other VGMs? |

Music seems to match the arcade game, sample MP3s here match the first 6 of the VGM pack, maybe the rest of the pack is based on it too? Poor Matt seems to have the most dual credits because of his porting work :(

The VGM hasn't been processed yet, but I grabbed a sneak peek.
The title for the odd number screen is "We fight for friends", and the even number screen is called "Never to return". Interestingly, the latter is attributed to Derby Tatsuo, whereas the former is written by Wooper Katsu (Katsuhiro Hayashi). |

Music by Scott Statton, mixture of original compositions and arrangements.
End of Game = Happy Days are Here Again, AKA Wochenend und Sonnenschein. I see composer cites for Milton Ager. The Entertainer: composer Scott Joplin. Maybe need to hack it to check for additional tracks? (reference) |

Main theme is "Louie Louie", originally by Richard Berry. Other tracks could be compared to other systems (eg. C64, supposedly one of the original release platforms) to see if they are conversions.

Level 4 is an arrangement of "Jingle Bells", composed by James Pierpont. It has a brief interlude with "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" which is traditional.

Rastan

Game credit says "Kaposhi Onui" who is actually Kazuyuki Onui (or various minor variations), which would be おおぬい かずゆき - tracked via mobygames and google to GMCL. Rastan is ラスタン in Japanese (although they always called it Rastan Saga over there - maybe that'd be more appropriate?).
Does GG Rastan Saga have the same music as SMS Rastan? |

Isn't GG Rastan Saga just a quick fix to get MS Rastan to run on the GG? |

Track names from the OST (also used on the Mega Drive VGM set):
Stage Intro - Skyscraper Theme Levels 1 & 2 - Bonanza Elegy Bonus Stage - Thrilling Bonanza Stages 3, 4, and 5 - Bonanza Brother's Duty Stages 6, 7, and 8 - Bonanza Go-Go Stages 9 and 10 - Bonanza Suspense Theatre Ending - Bonanza Serenade It seems that most versions of this game keep changing the music order. |

Current credit says "Myam, Shant, Shin-Kun, Pazu"; it's actually 2 people, "Myam Shant" "Shin-Kun Pazu". Myam Shant's real name is Masatomo Miyamoto (宮本昌知), the other person I think was responsible for the SMS conversion from the MSX version.

Re: Golvellius

It has long been though that Miyamo-Shant was one person, but it is in fact two. Miyamo is indeed Masatomo Miyamoto. Shant (also known as Take-Shant) is Takeshi Santô, current head of game development company Sting. |

Fair enough :) I was mainly going off the Mobygames page (although the separate reference to Take Shant was confusing), perhaps something needs to be added there?

(Miyamo-Shant on Mobygames)
Yes, I've been meaning to correct that for a long time. I'm the one responsible for Masatomo Miyamoto in the first place, but that was before it was known that Shant was someone else. |

Well, should I put Onui or Oonui? (and ... what about kanjis?)
Hm... *added info to the pack* The samples, anyone? =P
Need advanced hacking, since I really can't find the right point on memory editor.
Well, I just added this to the pack for now, but all other versions I know doesn't have staff credits (at least easily accessable by finishing the game)... (C64? hm... didn't know this one yet) =P
Fixed (I hope it's the same music,... actually, I'll need to listen to the arcade music now...)
That's what's written in the game, but other versions seem to have different information... I think O_o (hey, I put K. Tukaara on my site, haha)
Are the really MUSIC composers? That was my first guess, but now I'm kind of worried about it. |

Yes, the opening is Pure Stone, and is what I regard as the main theme of both Zillion games. The ending is called Push, and is also a theme in one of the games. |

Now, let me fix those Zillion packs, especially the one with 2 Push!s and 3 Pure Stones. Seems like the artist for Push! is Risa Yuuki, just like Pure Stone. Risa Yuuki on Wikipedia |

OTOH, Yûki didn't compose the songs. I suppose we want composer credits instead?
|

Yes, but it's pretty harder to find this information when the only japanese I know is katakana and hiragana reading (actually, started learning kanjis more seriously in the last classes...) =P |
|
|

The composer for Pure Stone is called 木内義昭, which I think should be read as Yoshiaki Kiuchi. The composer for Push is 入江純 (Jun Irie). Shingo Kobayashi (小林信吾) helped out on both tracks.

Sonic of all games
Posted: Thu Dec 14, 2006 7:17 pm

Sonic the Hedgehog - Green Hill Zone should be credited as Masato Nakamura arr. Yuzo Koshiro (as the track is just a 8-bit port)
Needs the Title and Invincible checking with the original to see if this is the same case. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Gatao should be Masashi Ogata http://ng-stg.hp.infoseek.co.jp/gm/name/o.html (credited for a GG game) Got a theory for Sonic Chaos that Mix is Koujiro Mikusa but lacking proof until GMCL updates or otherwise, this should not be included. |

Notice that I recently (quietly) released an update of this pack with this fixed. However, I later noticed it's on CRV's "badly trimmed" list so I need to look into that. |

This information on GameFaqs looks a little contradictory to me =P
Aladdin composer: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/sms/data/570184.html Hang On composer: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/sms/data/588084.html And this one if there is a Zool pack being made: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/sms/data/570281.html |

Gamefaqs is not a very good source of information. Mobygames and vgmdb are much better.
Note also that the Wikipedia listing of Matt Furniss' work is accurate because he wrote it. |
|
|
Posted: Thu Dec 11, 2008 4:12 am |
but GameFAQs could be much better if someone contribute with better information for them ... .. at least most of the information I got there for Atari and Intellivision seem to be correct, and the data they have for Phantasy Star, Sonic and Zillion .. seems just right. =P
... I really wanted to know who is the composer for Kenseiden musics... it's just wrong not knowing this ._. |

The arranger (and composer of new tracks) is Sting S (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoPJQYFK66Y#t=40m34s)
Furthermore, there is a Sting Ogawa credited for SpellCaster. They're the same person, and I even know his real name. You see 1. Sting S is credited by his full alias name in Super Thunder Blade: Sting Saito. 2. On a soundtrack release of STB's music, Sting is credited as S.O 3. S.O is a sound assistant for Sonic 2 (MD). That's right; this person is Sachio Ogawa. |

Couldn't there be two people working for Sega making music with initials S.O.?

That's the beauty of the two-letter system Sega employed back then. For its in-house games, everyone had their own code. To name a few... K.H - Katsuhiro Hayashi K.T - Keisuke Tsukahara K.N - Koichi Namiki N.H - Naofumi Hataya T.N - Takayuki Nakamura T.S - Tomonori Sawada (from Golden Axe III) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWiZ2UUDItI#t=2m21s) (Maeda says it's him in "Golden Axe The Music" album by Wave Master [see second attachment]) Sachio Ogawa, naturally, would be S.O (I've added the Super Thunder Blade CD release information I mentioned in my last post on this one.) Between "Sting Saito" being the same person as "S.O" and Sting also being known as "Sting Ogawa," there really is nothing to say it isn't Sachio. As for anyone that comes close to that name, here's why they can't be. Shinobu Ogawa - Not only did he work outside of Sega, he has also only been known as "S. Ogawa" whenever his full name wasn't used [and not "S.O".] Seirou Okamoto - Even before accounting for the Sting alias, Ogawa was still involved in games by his full name (http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,67179/) before Okamoto (http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,78087/), as Sonic 3 came out before Clockwork Knight. Figure in the S.O alias, and Ogawa goes back to Sonic 2. |

Does anybody still care to have updated tags? If so, I can do some.
I've been doing the same for Project2612, but the site is dead so all the updates I've done are just sitting in the forums. http://project2612.org/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=622 |

Certainly, so long as the changes are not too controversial, just re-tag and upload to the forums. If it looks good I'll let you upload directly to the site. However, I prefer to keep nicknames when the real name is not very certain - but vgmdb its pretty reliable. I dislike using credits from other ports of the same game, for example.

Most of the games which credit "Tiertex" for the music is John Hancock. He composed almost all of their games. All of the games on the VGMPF are the games he verified to me that he composed.
Gauntlet was John Prince. I am surprised Battleship is not on here. The game's producer told me the game was programmed by Gil Espeche and the NES version was composed by Mark Knight. Well, the GameGear version uses the same music, so it makes Mark the composer nonetheless. If anyone ported it to the GameGear, it would be Gil. Also, James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing says the composer is KIN. The NES version of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade credits the music to Mark Tait in the instruction manual. However, there are different staff credits in the game, so I think it's referring to either the computer or Sega versions. I tried asking Mark Tait, but he refused to answer my question. You can find pictures of these staff credits on the VGMPF Wiki: http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=Game_Credits Also, Cliffhanger's music is from the movie composed by Trevor Jones, but the Game Gear version says the music is by Dave Lowe. Back to the Future Part II is Alan Silvestri and David Whittaker, as credited in all of the other ports which were also developed by Image Works. Terminator 2: Judgement Day is Andi McGinty. I found this not only from a musical comparison, but the only other composer at Arc at the time Mark Cooksey told me it wasn't him. Kazuhiko Nagai told me California Games is Tarnya (Chikako Kamatani). |
