Hi-Res art of Phantasy Star, Fantasy Zone and other SEGA Classics.

Andlabs at Sonic Retro forum is doing an awesome job extracting art from the Playstation 2's SEGA Ages 2500 series. There is a lot of Hi-Res artwork, scans of covers and manuals and in the case of Fantasy Zone, concept art.

(EDITED)

Can't wait untill he gets to Monster World Collection

The Fantasy Zone artwork and development pages are fantastic. A great reminder of how games evolve during the creative process. So much stuff.

It's also really cool to see those planning pages for the bosses with technical information. Effectively all gameplay was designed given technical constraints (which is something that Japan is still good at, and western developers still terrible at).

Look like in early plan it was question to make half of Fantasy Zone 2 a top down shooting game like Twin-Bee, with even a Space Harrier-like 3d sequence.

There's even a full blown schedule of the Fantasy Zone II development.

Sega and M2 have done an extraordinary job collecting those materials for the Fantasy Zone collection on PS2, not even mentioning the new Fantasy Zone II DX. I can't stress enough how this is worth purchasing.

I'll post some observations as I go through these...

Fantasy Zone:
- They've "photoshopped" out the addresses and phone numbers from the boxes/manuals - for US and JP, not DE...
- The warranty pages are missing from the manuals
- The Japanese FZ1 box has white text, our scan has black - is that a real variation?

Haven't checked yet, but could the removed addresses and warranty text been out of legal concerns?

More likely to avoid people trying to contact them with details that won't work - I think some Japanese addresses remain because they're still valid?

Yes it is the only Mark III cartridge variation AFAIK.

Hello,
I could not wait for Andlabs to rip the Monster World Collection, so I grabbed my game DVD and did it by myself:)

I'm no programmer, so dealing with strange proprietary compression methods hasn't been easy (a friendly programmer at my office helped me!!!).
The results? I could not grab every single file, some are still missing (most notably instruction booklets) but the gallery still offered me more than 500 BMPs with artwork, sketches, documents from the series AND over 200 music sheets with the complete MW Opus by Shinichi Sakamoto (I literally shed tears of joy when I saw them, following them inside the game interface was painful).

In attachment to this message, I've put a small sample of the kind of contents you may find in the PS2 Monster World Complete Collection game DVD.

[EDIT: upon kind request I removed the link to the full set].

Bump.

Anyone who has "psccbmp.7z" and can upload it for me somewhere? I really want it. It seems that Apple
has closed down "idisk.mac.com /" and I find no way to get in contact with Andlabs at Sonic Retro...

I already have the original software. This project is about extracting
art into bitmaps.. I wish I had knowledge to do it myself.
