Sonic 2

The actual vgm set of Sonic 2 isn't complete yet. Still missing Good Ending, GG Boss theme, etc...

There's some signal of making a new set with all the missing songs? Thanks

See ya

Also. Big update.

Gatao = Masafumi Ogata
Nao Chan = Naofumi Hataya
Dawasa = Tomonori Sawada (he only did one track, which, based on Gems Collection, can only be Under Ground Zone.

While I'm at it, try these on for size.

Sonic CD : Sonic 2
-Sonic - You Can Do Anything : Green Hills Zone -> Masafumi Ogata

-Palmtree Panic : Act Start -> Naofumi Hataya

-Collision Chaos : Gimmick Mountain Zone -> Masafumi Ogata

-Tidal Tempest : Crystal Egg Zone -> Masafumi Ogata

-Quartz Quadrant : Aqua Lake Zone -> Naofumi Hataya

-Wacky Workbench : Invincibility -> Masafumi Ogata

-Stardust Speedway : Scrambled Egg Zone -> Naofumi Hataya

-Metallic Madness : Sky High Zone -> Naofumi Hataya

-Boss : Boss (GG) -> Naofumi Hataya

Finally, and most importantly, Naofumi Hataya and Masayuki Nagao are two completely different people. It's been confirmed (Nagao has a self-named Twitter, and he was born in a different year). Nagao N Gee, N Gee and Nagao 'O' Gee should not be linked to Hataya for any reason, for it is highly incorrect to do so.

As you might imagine, name links without citations are a problem for us. Without wishing to appear like an annoying Wikipedia person, "[citation needed]"...

I've unlinked the two names as you suggested. We already had Masayuki Nagao in the system, just not linked up properly to his nicknames.

Gatao and Dawasa are clearly anagrams of Ogata and Sawada, and Nao Chan uses a part of Naofumi.

Of course, there's also this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGxs_hgWHqw

Yes, and it's from there that I started making S2 : SCD comparisons. I counted beats between Tidal Tempest and Crystal Egg and never looked back.

Anyway, since I couldn't really find forums for all these games (and I thought it was easier to take them all out in one shot), here's some more updates:

-Masayuki Nagao (as M. Nagao) was credited for "Sound" (i.e. Music) in Sonic Drift 2 with Kobayashi (as S. Kobayashi)

-Masayuki Nagao (as N. Gee) was credited as a "Sound Creator" in Sonic Drift (i.e. he did all the sounds)

-Nagao N Gee was used to credit Nagao for Sonic Chaos.

-Kojiro Mikusa was known as "Mix" in Sonic Chaos, "Koujiro Mixa" in Virtua FIghter Animation, and "K. Mixa" in Sonic Triple Trouble (Game Staff) and Tails Adventures (Sound Composer)

-Chikayo Fukuda was also in Tails' Skypatrol (as "Chikayo")

-Yayoi F is Yayoi Wachi (Panzer Dragoon Zwei, NiGHTS), who was credited as "Y. Wachi" for the Game Gear version of Magic Knight Rayearth

-Tokuhiko Uwabo is the porter/arranger for the Master System version of After Burner (from After Burner 20th Anniversary Box).

I planned to update this set some while ago, but I never started.
I already waited too long, so I'll do this within the next few weeks.

I just ripped some of the tunes from the SMS version and noticed something:
Ending is has a length of 02:05.23, but the current version is 02:19.28 long.
I was unsure if the timing was wrong in the old rip, so I also ripped the GG version - and what did I get? A song length of 02:19.64. (both auto-trimmed)

Has anyone already noticed that the GG version is longer than the MS one?

Also, is there any information on the unused tunes?
Unused are:
- Song 8A (MS only, intended as tune for the speed up item?)
- Song 8E (equal in both, MS and GG, continue music maybe)
- Song 92 MS (looping, for ending scene?)
- Song 92 GG (short 4-second jingle, also for ending scene?)

I also added some info to the Development page.

So, here is the completed VGM pack.
I'll leave it attached for some days. I'd like someone to check it before I upload it to the wiki.

Notes:
- there are 3 playlists (all tracks, GG, MS)
- the sound driver has a weird timing - it doesn't seem to be exactly 60 Hz, so I optimized it with vgm_smp1 instead of vgm_facc
I got rounding errors (-367 and 367) with the latter one.
- all tracks have per-track composers (thanks to the lists at Sega Retro)
- with exception of the level names, the Japanese tags are complete
- I left the "Opening Demo" track in

Enjoy!

I haven't found any problem with the Set at the moment. The Unknown theme... Maybe is some kind of Beta version of Crystal Egg Zone? I think they are similar, what do you think?

Anyway, thanks for this upload, it was really needed!

See ya

Lately, I've found out Sawada composed "Crystal Egg Zone" and Ogata composed "Under Ground Zone". Can someone update the VGM set? Thanks.

Sorry, but I am a recent member so I can't post links. For proof, go to the link for the screenshot at the thread "Brad Buxer and the S3 Mid Boss Theme" on Sonic Retro, where I also gave proof about him composing a track from Sonic 3.

I don't see anything about the Ogata credit in that thread, although it is crazy long so I didn't read closely.

I believe it was Ogata, due to its similarities with "BGM 1" from Hyper Marbles.

Please throw all your beliefs and suspicions out of the window when confirming anything, for they're not valid proof...

Fine. Maybe we could credit both Hataya and Ogata for Under Ground Zone, like the other tracks where the composer is unknown.

Wait a sec, where is there evidence to say who composed each track? I don't recall this being released on CD.

Here is an updated rip of Sonic 2. Credited Sawada as composer for Crystal Egg Zone and credited both Hataya and Ogata for Underground Zone, as we are unsure for that track.

And the track that is on Sonic 2 Auto Demo? Which of composers created the track?

Unknown as of yet.

Speaking of the Auto Demo, I've just realised most of the song credits (except songs that were later reworked) on this pack are based around E102/kyubi's speculation. I'll soon make an updated version of the pack that changes most credits to "Naofumi Hataya, Masafumi Ogata" so don't download the pack I posted a few months backs.
