Sports Pad interface

Has anyone hooked up a Sega Sports Pad trackball via parallel port (or USB) to the PC?
I've been experimenting with running the old db9-linux parallel port interface to the PC with a Sega Genesis controller and had some success. But my Sports Pad test failed. Generally looking to have the Sports Pad trackball usable on Windows in other apps (MAME), but would be great to get this supported under Meka. |

Have you disassembled the games that support it yet?

The official Sega documents cover it:
http://www.smspower.org/Development/SMSOfficalDocs#HOWTHETRACKBALLWORKS It seems a little ambiguous as to how you keep track of the X/Y switchover - it seems to be saying you have to count the strobe transitions. |

thanks yeah i had seen the documentation so that's good that it exists along with the code snippet. i'm thinking i might not be getting the +5V needed to power the trackball -- i'll have to keep messing with it. May end up getting a microcontroller to interface with it instead of trying to go through the parallel port. I was surprised to see it seems like no one has hooked up one of the Sports Pads to the PC before -- they are really nicely made and robust trackballs. | |
