New weird spambots?
Post Posted: Tue Dec 22, 2009 8:35 am
What's with the weird "my introduction" spambots?
I mean, where's the spam part if all they do is introduce themselves? I'm confused...

They're testing things like whether the posts get deleted and whether they get replies, to judge how worth it it is to spam here. Also, we have a spam word blacklist that would kill a lot of the standard spam content.

Also sometimes their message actually contains links or weird tags that gets filtered. One of them a few days ago had a one-character link in the middle of a sentence, it is difficult to spot.

I saw that one too, but I wasn't sure if we should keep on reporting them...

Maxim, should we?

Maa, usually they are trivial to spot (maxim and I usually read all the forums posts) so you don't really have to bother reporting. If you see one that isn't deleted after a few days maybe yes then.

OT: This got me curious about what kind of following the SMS (or any bootleg variants, like the NES "Dendy") had in Russia. :D

How come we don't have "SEX" in the list of blocked words?
http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=61011

Right, it's a prefectly legitimate word when used in certain contexts, but... Maybe guests should be disallowed from using it?

Interesting read, I didn't know about that. It reminded me of penisland.net (pen island), a website which actually sells pens.

This user has signed up to many forums on other websites, and made exactly 1 post each time with a one-line subject that is loosely related the topic.

I can't tell if the associated website is malicious or not. It is hosted in Kiev, Ukraine (registered to a Maxim, but surely not our Maxim!?) and is only referenced by this user's posts and keyword lists in Google.
