This one is interesting. The box and manual are European ones. Except the back of the box has 2 stickers: one with Korean text, one marked "Licensed by Sega". The cartridge is Korean shaped cartridge with primitive label.

Look at the bad reproduction quality on the G-loc cover. The moiré can be seen from across the world.

Wow!

I was just registering here to post about Korean Zemina games... first let me introduce myself:

I'm SLotman from the site "MSX Files", and for the last 9 years I've been searching for rare games, making some new ones and converting others.

I have converted several SG-1000 games to MSX (BombJack, Dragon Wang among others), and some from ColecoVision - and recently found here the dumps of Dr.Hello and Three Dragon Story - both games released on MSX, but undumped/rare on the system so far.

I then re-converted those two games from Sg-1000 to MSX - and learnt that others like them exists: not only Won-Si-In (another undumped MSX game), but also Cyborg-Z. I found some clues about other Korean games which I don't know if there's an SG-1000 port, like "Alteread Beast" (from Clover) and Gun Smoke (From Prosoft).

If anyone has a dump of those games, please contact me - I would love to (re-)port them to MSX :)

Also, on my site I put some videos of those games (I found them on a Japanese website like youtube called Nicovideo), you can watch them here: http://msx.icongames.com.br

Yeah, Gun Smoke also exists for SG-1000 - look at this Japanese topic :

http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9297

It clearly shows Gun Smoke for "Gam*Boy", which is a Korean Master System/SG-1000 machine! Seems even to be dumped, since the guy took two screenshots... I wish I could speak japanese now :(

Very nice work on the port.
Is there some documentation available about how the conversion are done? This could interested some people here, who worked or are working on similar conversion (the other way, obviously). If you have more info about this, please create a new dedicated thread in the Development forum. Thanks.

On Gunsmoke: The problem is that some collectors are dumping stuff and not willing to release them (there's another video about a fighting game for SMS on Youtube, dump unreleased). I contacted the poster in Japanese and waiting for an answer now.

That'd be a challenge :)
Almost all MSX1 ROM games require the BIOS in $0000-$3FFF, and at least 16KB RAM in $C000-$FFFF. Games typically reside in $4000-$BFFF ($4000-$7FFF for 16KB games). Then there's the AY8910 with a broader frequency spectrum than the SN76489.

Slotman: I have figured out how many of the undumped cartridges worked: simply they are using MSX based mappers! (eg: ASCII/8KB mapper) and the first 16KB contains an hacked MSX BIOS it seems. I have now dumped Street Master and Won-Si-In and managed to hack MEKA to show a proof of concept of getting them working (requires some more work on the emulator). Give me some more time to fix all this and eventually release them.

Actually porting from SG-1000 (no BIOS) to MSX is easy, video just needs to swap the ports (BE/BF to 98/99) - the worst part being converting the input ans the sound to MSX - but since I have those two routines ready, is just a matter of finding OUTs and INs in the SG-1000 ROM, and replace them.

The other way around is more difficult, because of MSX Bios. You would need to replace the Bios calls (if the game uses them, of course) - but not only that, on MSX you can do the same thing through several ways - using BIOS, direct access, or even reading some memory areas; so it's a little more complicated to disassemble everything and port it, than doing SG-1000->MSX.

I hear ya... seen this behaviour before :(
I hope the guy who dumped Gun Smoke don't think like them... it seems to be a very cool game!

If it helps at all, I have Street Master (MSX version) dumped, it's on my site, in the "rare games" section. There are other Zemina games on my site, like some "mario" versions (maybe they could be ported to SG-1000 using this same BIOS?).

And thanks in advance, I cant wait to see Won-Si-In in action :)

Hello Guys, I'm new here :)

I registered because I found a place that sells two Zemina game carts: Flashpoint and Puzzle.

Each goes for less than US$15, but the store gives no guarantee that they still run.

I don't want them, but I thought it might be recommendable to hook them up with someone who'd be able to dump the roms.

So if you're a dumper and interested, or know a dumper who might be interested, let me know.

Just got a break. From what I understand, Korean games is basically under the same status as US, games. Considering the goverment. However what I ( and like
the rest of us ) is Korean gaming in general. Asides for the SNK transition.

Fun fact: Zemina announced a Master System-exclusive Wonsiin II in early 1992. I don't think it ever got made/released, though.

Also, in case someone wondered about the number in the title of "Toto World 3": The protagonist in Wonsiin is introduced as "the little caveman Toto" on the back of the box

Learned about two other games, only through an advertisement so far:

Red Wiz and Wonder Kid. These were the first two games by Open, after the programmers left Zemina. Wonderkid could have been built upon the unreleased Zemina Wonsiin 2, judging by the theme.

I'm not 100% sure these got actually released, but at least Wonder Kid got referenced later several times when something about Open was written, so it is quite likely for that. Nothing else on Red Wiz, though.

Hey, did you know Samsung also published games on MyCard in Korea?

I own only Flicky, which is seen on the photos below. But I can also confirm the existence of Korean releases for Satellite 7, Choplifter, Safari Race and Galaga on MyCard.

Was there no Japanese card version at all? I guess if there'd have been a card version for the SG-1000 II, then it would have been just advertised as a Gam*Boy / Master System game (the SG-1000 wasn't officially available in Korea).

At any rate, I'm pretty sure it's just the SG-1000 game put on a card. Can't test it though, as I don't own a SG-1000 II (or any other SG-1000 machine, for that matter).

I managed to save the images of the other cards before their pages got deleted from the shop.

Oh, and in case you want the Hangeul for the database:

Flicky 후리키
Choplifter 쵸프리프터
Safari Race 사파리레이스
Galaga 겔러그

Satellite 7 isn't quite readable, unfortunately. I'd say it's 새터라이트 7, but I couldn't guarantee for that.

Some Korean games usually have two prices marked on cover'

공장도가 ( 유통비용제외가격 )
권장소비자가격

Do you know what they correspond to?
The second one is retail price. The first one seems to be related to factory price / bulk buying but I'm curious why this would be marked on a game box.

I'm not 100% sure, but it might have been the law to do so at some time. (nowadays most electronic goods don't even have a price tag in stores at all...)

... even more interesting is the fact that the product description for games on these boxes is "plastics, electronics"

Magical Tree as 요술나무 and the game with the Japanese title I'm too lazy to look up (something Scandal) as 태권소년.

I've finally finished my article on Korean games (well, the first part of it, anyway). It's not concentrating on any particular hardware, but you'll find Master System stuff covered at the profiles of the known companies (Open, Zemina, HiCom, SIECO/Gameline), a lot of which was only possible thanks to SMS Power (look at the state of Famicom game coverage for the alternative).

All credits I've seen are listed in an appendix, that includes many of the SMS games. Is it OK if I edit those credits in on the individual game sites on here at SMS Power, or is it obligatory to provide screenshots for everything?

Here's the link. Please note that the article is not yet posted on the HG101 main site, and thus still subject to some minor editing:

All contributions are gladly welcomed.

It's not obligatory to add screenshots, just leave behind the [[!Credits lacking screenshots]] tag (and missing image link) so we can fill them in later. It's nice to have some "evidence" (it also helps to notice typos), although of course it's trivial to fake.

I had all screenshots for the credits of Jang Pung 3, so I started with that. If everything's alright with the entry, I can start to add more.

I also entered release information based on my copy of Toto World 3.

It's OK, except "people" credits should go to the People group (see http://www.smspower.org/Credits/JangPung3-SMS?action=diff ). Note then that you get pages automatically created for the people and on those pages a listing of all the credits they appear in, so (for example) http://www.smspower.org/People/LeeSanghun will fill up with info.

Oh, that was from the title screen. I took another entry for reference and thought it was a general information rather than directly refering to the credits scroll... Changed it to what it actually says in the credits now.

I've finally finished my article on Korean games

Excellent info there, well done. I had been trying to find out the answer to where Toto World 1 and 2 were, and I found it in the article.

There are definite comparisons between Wonder Kid/Adventure Kid and the Original Wonderboy (obviously), but also Toto World 3/Cave Dude has some similarities with Wonderboy in Monsterland/Monster World, such as the hearts health system, melee combat that can be upgraded and a number of similar monsters, such as the SideCrawler below:

I corrected some Korean title spellings (Super Boy, Suho Jeonsa), but apparently in the games list the Korean has to be changed seperately. Don't know how to do that, though...

This also affects the transcribed title of Suho Jeonsa (formerly Suho Cheonsa).

Gaegujangi Ggachi would also have to be Gaegujangi Kkachi, according to official RR.
