Sega Force magazine archive

Here is a bittorrent archive of every issue of Sega Force, Sega Master Force and Sega Force Mega. There is a total of 2.23GB of scans.

Please try seed to a ratio of at least 1.00. Let me know if it doesn't work, I'm no expert at this bittorrent stuff. My upload rate is only about 100KB/s so be patient.

Edit: openbittorrent is closed, so the torrent (probably) doesn't work any more. It might work over DHT, I'm not sure.

Edit 2: new torrent file with another public tracker added, which actually works.

Yeah, I'm grabbing it now too - I'll seed it until I get bored (could be forever). I like to grab things in chunks though, so I'm grabbing the MegaCD and SMS bits first, and the rest when they're done

oh man, we should re-review some of these games.

Land of Illusion at 89%?
I'd give that a 95% these days - although that may be an indicator of slipping review standards more than anything

Is there any problems with the tracker at the moment? I can't start the download, the only thing I get:

Tracker[0:0]: Connecting to http://tracker.openbittorrent.com/announce
Tracker[1:1]: Connecting to udp://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80/announce
Tracker: [Tried all trackers.]

It just loops those messages over and over (with rTorrent 0.8.5)

I had some problems with BT++ so I downloaded BitTorrent 6.3; works fine now.
Downloading and seeding for some hours now.

I guess I'll have to try it with some other Bittorrent-client then. The thing is I would have loved to be able to use rTorrent since it's running on my server 24/7, and I could have left it seeding for a long long time (on a 100/100Mbit connection).

Well atleast I will have an oportunity to try out some native Torrent-clients for OS X.

I recommend Transmission for any machine that isn't Windows, and μTorrent otherwise.

These scans (in slightly more compressed form) are mostly now on the site:

http://www.smspower.org/Scans/SegaForce-Magazine
http://www.smspower.org/Scans/SegaMasterForce-Magazine

and I'm slowly working through the reviews, OCRing/correcting/typing them. They all magically appear as links from the relevant scans pages and game pages.

In theory, I've been seeding it mostly-continuously for the last year. It was lifted from a DVDR sold on eBay, which I bought and "liberated"; if any ebay fans see similar things I'm happy to repeat the exercise. (I think this is the same seller.)

I've got a load of magazine scans in this form from various sources, and there are a lot more out there, but the problem is that we shouldn't just "take" them, we should ask permission from the person who scanned them first. If you want to get them added here, please approach the scanner/submitter/site for permission. We always prefer non-watermarked images where appropriate. Access to better quality original images is good too...

I have web space to host this. The only thing is I'd rather it be in HQ PDF format. I can download this and over the next few weeks start converting it to PDF and uploading it to my web domain.

Can you host the original files as well?
Maxim has been traditionally working hard extracting pictures to free them out of their PDF prison :)

Now I will have to redownload as I deleted the files as I converted them.

pdfimages -j filename.pdf filename.pdf
where pdfimages comes from Xpdf. Bingo, you're back where you started.

Arguably, magazine scans should be in CBR format rather than PDF. Not that I think that's better...

CBR and CBZ is useless to me tbqh. It's basically a frontend to view jpegs inside a zip or rar. PDF is widely used, though I don't necessarily agree with adobe and the speed of the program it is the most used.

Actually, that's exactly what it is. You can rename cbz/cbr to zip or rar to extract images if you wanted.

...But not more than Winzip or Winrar, I think.

Even browsing through the JPGs through Window's internal image viewer is nicer than PDFs, in my oppinion.

As promised, I converted it all over to a format we can agree on (CBR). It's all uploading now. I converted everything, except the posters. I'll try and make a nice friendly HTML page to nagivate between it as well. I'll post the links in a few hours when it's all done uploading.

Enjoy. I'll work on making some sort of HTML to navigate it easier over the next few days.

The original jpegs are not archived because you can just extract the CBR with WinRAR or 7-Zip and get the same files.

Re Seed?
Post Posted: Sun Oct 28, 2012 10:21 am
HI all. New to this forum! I've resently learned that my WHOLE collection of SEGA Force that was stored in my mothers loft was thrown away many moons ago without my knowledge! Devastated isn't the word.

I've just come across this thread and was wondering if someone could seed it for me?

Thank you!

:-)

That's why I put it up online, a lot of people aren't willing to seed 24/7 and I understand that.

I'm seeding again, don't know why it wasn't, must have forgotten when I switched computers. This one should be up 24/7.

I've added it to my seedbox, so once it's downloaded there, it should be secure for the foreseeable future.

Maybe someone could get it into the Internet Archive magazines collection where it will be rather safer and web seeded. I have no experience of that...
