Alex Kidd In Shinobi World - Unused Tiles
Post Posted: Wed Oct 15, 2008 10:25 am
I was playing Alex Kidd In Shinobi World (for the 511th time) and noticed some unused tiles in the tileviewer. These were all seen between levelchanging:

- Who is this? And what's he so happy about?

Also: - Could this be some sort of unused turtle-like boss?

Since these was also there: Level 5? Round 4 & 5? Were they planning to make more rounds, or have I missed some sort of secret? Conspiracies!

Thoughts, comments?

I tried extracting more with the tile decoder but it couldn't find anything.
I thought I knew everything there was to know about AKISW, but apparently there's still some mystery left :)

If you've seen anything else out of the ordinary, don't hesitate to share :)

Interesting find.
The kind is from when the game was 'Shinobi Kidd', see this thread:

Maybe one can look for more levels in the ROM, but I think Maxim looked already.

Thats interesting, nice find.

I love this game and it does feel like there should be more levels, my only complaint with it is that it is far too short. another 2 levels would have been perfect :)

AKISW is just awesome...probably one of the best on the MS. There's not a lot of games where you can turn into flaming fireballs on lamposts!

I have been looking through this rom with Tile Layer Pro and Massacre and it all appears to be a jumbled mess. Usually with other roms, you can at least clearly see the sprite tiles.

I also had no success with Maxims tile decoder.

Any ideas?

Try starting at offset 19E20. There's a lot of false positives around 18000 that waste a lot of time, and nothing before that.

Thx Maxim, starting at that address saved a lot of time :)

It is still strange that no sprites are viewable in Tile Layer.

In particular I am looking for the alex sprite ... since there is a left of shinobi kid sprite, I thought I would use that as a reference for making a new series of animations, effectively putting shinobi kid back in the game. But I can't seem to find alex lol.
