I'm not sure. It's a fairly final looking prototype. I'll release it once I get all Slap Shot versions sorted. (I'll mail you the ROM in the meanwhile)

It looks like the Sanritsu arcade game "Combat Hawk" is coming to MAME.

SMS "Double Hawk" appears to be very loosely based on this, but while that was a "Cabal" clone, "Combat Hawk" is a military "Bank Panic."

I've been going through Sanritsu/SIMS stuff again recently. Has the ROM for J.League GG Pro Striker '94 ever been released? I don't have it and I can't seem to find it. I asked this two years ago, it looks like, and I don't think anybody answered. I don't have any credits for it.

Hmm.. it's marked as released in MEKA compatibility list, but apparently it isn't available where I looked. I could have messed up and marked this as released while it isn't.

It's not in SMS Checker's lists, so it's probably not in the wild (even if they are in need of an update). Maybe it was confused with Pro Yakyuu GG League '94?

I recently hacked out the cheat codes for Forgotten Worlds and Tom & Jerry: The Movie and the (Z80) code is identical between them, except of course for relocation.

They share a programmer. Of course, a lot of the Sanritsu/SIMS games seem to share code, anyway.

Noticed the test mode cheat from G-LOC has been added. As I alluded to before, Hirohiko Yoneda was a programmer on it, Tom & Jerry (GG and SMS), and Forgotten Worlds, plus Gain Ground. He also was a programmer on J.League GG Pro Striker '94 and J.League Soccer: Dream Eleven.

Found Hiroyuki Yagi's website earlier this month. Scratch Golf is the only Game Gear game mentioned, though he is not actually credited on that (he is credited as an "adviser" on Godzilla, though). I think he acknowledges it was done by an outside company.

Is there anyone willing to figure out how to cheat through Tennis Ace so I can see the credits? I figured out that the scores are at C754 (1P) and C764 (2P) (00=00, 01=15, 02=30, 03=40), but I don't know if there's a way to make the game trigger a win so you don't have to actually do anything.

The game doesn't check the scores until they change for the first time, so it's not an easy point of attack. Try this:

ROM[8133]=20 ; you get points when you lose


Write at RAM[c750]:

05 05 05 02 03


and then you win on the first point, which you can now get by losing. Still a lot of games to play through though; it might be nice to reverse-engineer the password system instead.

I've attached a savestate right before the ending.

We can see that SIMS programmed Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers The Movie for Game Gear, and that they also programmed MMPR: The Movie for Megadrive/Genesis.

But accounts differ on whether or not they programmed the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers for Megadrive, and the internet has conflicting evidence and tend to get their credits lists muddled.

But it's interesting to notice that all four games have the same Executive Producer, Kisaborou Higashi.

In the two Game Gear games and the MMPR:The Movie game on MD/G, he is credited as Kisaborou Higashi, whereas in the original MMPR game he's only credited as K. Higashi.

Now it's interesting that accounts differ about whether SIMS programmed the original MMPR, because the majority of people of people credited in the original MMPR game go by some kind of odd alias that makes it hard to track down who did what.

Now, the sound credits intrigue me. Two people are credited. DRX dumped some prototype MMPR roms, and in the earliest or second earliest known build of MMPR (G/MD) had a different music soundtrack! In this prototype the music sounded much more like japanese arcade music, which did admittedly sound cool. In the final version, that music (along with changed voices and sound effects) was changed to be more like hard rock to mimic the music of the TV show. A few of these tracks remain in the final, but don't show up during gameplay.

So it would seem to me that Ken-chan would have composed the original beta's more arcadey soundtrack, and then later P.E Young was brought in to redo the music for a western audience, since Saban was really trying to localise it.

But the fact that the other staff members are going under odd pseudonyms, makes me wonder whether or not maybe they weren't allowed to be credited because of contract issues, or didn't want to be credited.

Who knows? Does anyone recognise any of these names from the known SIMS/Sanritsu or alternately Banpresto credits databases?

Sound credits can be the least meaningful as sound was very frequently subcontracted. Also, as you can see, Japanese developers were very often credited pseudonymously. We are documenting 8-bit games' credits with text and images, if you can bear to play through these games and screengrab the credits we'd be happy to have them and be an authoritative source.

The first Genesis Power Rangers was not by SIMS. It may have been by a company called Nova. Sound was by USP.
