[Museum] How to list/present subtle variations?

Discussion on the work-in-progress database.
Here are a few sample links of game with many versions: http://www.smspower.org/game.php?system=sms&name=ActionFighter http://www.smspower.org/game.php?system=sms&name=FantasyZone http://www.smspower.org/game.php?system=sms&name=PhantasyStar The question is how we introduce small variations in those listing ? Small variations include the ® or (now, there are no limits), various kinds of re-releases, sticker variations, boxes variations, number of languages, etc. On one hand, I would like to avoid polluting the listing too much with those information, on another, we need them stored somewhere. Sample case, Fantasy Zone has 10 variations: Fantasy Zone (EU) Fantasy Zone (EU) ® Fantasy Zone (EU) (now, there are no limits) Fantasy Zone (DE) Fantasy Zone (US) (sm) Fantasy Zone (US) (re-release) Fantasy Zone (US) (display unit cart) Fantasy Zone (AU) Fantasy Zone (JP) Fantasy Zone (BR) Currently on the page ( http://smspower.org/game.php?system=sms&name=FantasyZone ) we have 6 of them listed. Do you have an idea other than duplicating the entries, and each time adding a small bit of information (eg ®) on the second summary line ? |

I think the table should stay uncluttered. Because of details like cover variations maybe not having a direct correlation to certain ROM version, there could be many combinations. Maybe another text section with notes, only if necessary for a game. | |

We'll definitively have a separate ROM listing per game.
I somehow liked to include the cartridge type (label color, etc) and a few infos in the short listing, so maybe we can arbitrary tag and chose those displayed in the short listing. - I would include cartridge color variations, portuguese/italian/german variations in the short listing. - Would not include (R) / Now there are no limits, number of languages variations. The subtle variations could be in a SUB table based on the main release info. That would add 1 more depth to the DB but those subtle variations entries would be really easy to fill in. And if one version has no variations in the DB the webpage code can display one by default. |
