[Forums] Picture attachment problem
Post Posted: Mon May 14, 2007 9:36 am
Hey,

Maxim, there seems to be a problem. Whenever you attach a photo as an attachment to a post theres no thumbnail/link to click on to view the photo. Could you fix this please??

Thanks
Jacko

Can you show me? Your Lemmings theme post has a thumbnail as expected, for example.

The best I can do is show you a screen shot from my PC

Now I don't know but it could be ZoneAlarm blocking it, but I have made a rule for SMSPower to allow everything through.

This problem is happening with both IE and Firefox. Its also not a cache issue as its cleared everytime I close the browser.

Thanks
Scott

It looks like a filtering issue - here's a couple of links to the image:

Thumbnail link: http://www.smspower.org/forums/files/thumbs/t_theme_example_550.png

Thumbnail inline:

Full-size link: http://www.smspower.org/forums/download.php?id=697

Thumbnail link to fullsize:

Do you see two links and two thumbnails? Do you have any ad-blocker software installed?

Ok,

I see both the links now, I did just upgrade to ZoneAlarm so it could have been that blocking it.

Thanks Maxim

Maxim sorry to nag,

But I am still having this problem, I can't see any thumbnails in things such as JPEGs and stuff like that in attachments, its really annoying the hell out of me. I have tried turning all my privacy rules off in ZoneAlarm and that still does not help.

Do you know what could be causing this problem?

Thanks
Scott

No idea. I tried logging out and I can still see them. Can you save a page as HTML only and email me the file?

(OT) ZoneAlarm

Personally, I used to like ZoneAlarm but the newer nagging versions seem to be buggier and buggier. Then I read an article explaining that so long as you're not a malware-clicking-idiot, if you have a proper router (ie. one that only forwards you data you asked for, or specific ports you open yourself), software firewalls are a complete waste of time, especially given the inflated statistics they give regarding how many "attacks" they've blocked; and that it's fairly easy for any malware to bypass/disable them anyway. Use them only if you have no hardware firewall, and disable as much of their crap as possible. The only real use is to have something that tells you when software is accessing the net, and the best use for that is to catch certain software "phoning home". Anything malicious can still do that using techniques that software firewalls don't detect.

I'm having a different issue, but this topic fits it well.
Using Firefox 2.0.0.11 on a new computer, everything clean installed. When I click on any picture attachment, it comes up with the save dialog instead of just loading the image in a new tab. What have I changed on my old computer that made it work like that, so I can do it on this one?

I don't know. I also get that in Firefox 3 beta 2 and IE but not in Firefox 2.

Looking at the HTTP headers, it's caused by a Content-Disposition field. I'll see if I can remove that for images.

Edit: better now?
