Some more Japanese only games straight from our reserve!

Serizawa Hachidan no Tsumeshogi for the SG-1000 (芹沢八段の詰将棋), early SG-1000 problem game based on Shogi - aka Japanese chess. Time to confront to a new mystery! Here is a nice webpage to start teaching yourself how to play Tsume Shogi. People who already know may appreciate this game some more.

*EDIT* The game was previously referred to as "Ashizawa Hachidan no Tsumeshogi", which was a mistake on my side. The proper reading is "Serizawa". Thanks to J.J.Boy for pointing that out.

And we have Pocket Jansou for the Game Gear (ポケット雀荘), yet another Mah-jong game where you have to play against office ladies wearing glasses.

Ah, if I only knew how to play mahjongg... Isn't it strange, how "mak-jong" games so often have girls in them, while shogi games seldom do?

It's because in Japan dirty businessmen aged 30-60 play Mah-Jong, while crusty (but respectable) seniors 60 and up play Shogi in their local community centres. :-)

It's an easy mistake, I would have done the same thing.

せりざわ　はちだん　の　つめしょうぎ

I've been using 'ou' for long 'o', may consider switching to ô?

ah, the old romanization problem. Generally, I'd prefer to see the "ou" way since when written with a macron (or with a circumflex by French people =D) the long vowel is usually ignored, omitted, then people just write it as a regular o, with no marks on it at all.

There are good points and bad points for all writing systems, but some emus/menu loaders don't like accented characters. Just my 2 cents.

I think that the ô is just stupid, a simple o can be fine. If you really want you may consider to switch to ou, but I think it's not needed at all.

The point is that ô or ou represent one sound (long o) and o represents another (short o), and the two aren't interchangeable. "ou" is more likely to survive conversion/copying.

That's the very point of using macron. People who don't know Japanese aren't confused by the letter U, and those who know Japanese proncounciation can still see that the O is long.

Most of the world uses accented characters. Should the world or the emus change?

Nevertheless, filenames aren't very prone to survive zipping or internet transfers if they contain anything above the 7th bit.

"Ou"'s easier for me to type, since I don't have to search for an accented character. As an English-speaking American, I have very little use for those.
