Game Gear protos on ebay

Nothing terribly interesting, but it looks like a cool package overall. Way too pricey for me, though. The seller is mistaken when he says Beavis and Butthead is unreleased, right?

What is "Wild Snake" ?

Don't have time / files to check for all games, but F-15 Strike Eagle at least is a retail build. This can be proven by doing a sum of all bytes on both half of the ROM and comparing with the sum written on the EPROM chips.

Other EPROM chips seems to be isolated chips. Fatal Fury is a 512 KB game so it would use 4 of those chips, not two.

I'll have to modify the smspage program to compute sum on all known 128 KB chunks on all known ROMs, this would ease such comparaison. When the checksum is written on the EPROM, we can easily know if the data is prototype or final data.

It was a puzzle game. From IGN: "After a series of seismic disturbances, snakes have started to emerge from the ground, and it's up to you to get rid of them. Snakes will slither from the top of the screen towards the bottom, and you have to direct the snake's head so that it touches a snake with the same pattern, which will eliminate both from the playing field. If the screen is filled with snakes, the game is over. In addition to the standard game, there are several variations available including 10 different grid shapes, obstacles in the grid, two-player option, and King Cobra Challenge, where you must complete eight levels within a time limit. Keep the snakes from piling up in WILD SNAKE."

I'm wondering if the Game Gear version even came out. I don't think it did.

Doesn't look like it. It came out for the Game Boy though, maybe that EPROM got mixed in?

I know the winning bidder, its me. That was way more than I wanted to spend, but I just had to have it. Im addicted to anything game gear related, especially any rare, prototype, or developmental items to do with the game gear and I just could not pass it up. I can't believe no one else bid on it, I thought I would have never had a chance. By the way, anyone who has any above mentioned game gear items who want to part with them, please let me know, I pay good.

As for the snake game, I will be happy to dump a copy of it for all here so it can be played by others. I just need to build me a copier, which should not be to hard. Never had a need for one before.

Well hey, that's good news!

Since the EPROMs are all socketed, you could probably just invest in a simple EPROM reader and dump the data from each one straight to your computer, rather than trying to build a special Game Gear dumper.

It is interesting to see the small Takara sticker on one of the EPROMs. It is also interesting to see WWF Raw and Fatal Fury on one PCB, does that mean that they're the same game or was that PCB switchable?

And "that little hologram" has not been covered up (or maybe it was but someone moved the sticker). :(

In fact, apart from "WildSnake", the other EPROM chips are 512KB each.

"WWF Raw", "Samurai Shodown" and "Beavis and Butt-Head" are also final builds.

"Fatal Fury Special" seems to differ from both released versions (Europe and USA) and "WildSnake" has a (slightly?) different checksum to the recently dumped prototype.

Were you able to dump your version of "WildSnake" (or of "Fatal Fury Special")? If not, do you still have the EPROMs?
