Pardon my ignorance but what are schematics?
As for system design, all three systems seem to work in
the exact same manner except the casing and internal
parts are smaller and cheaper.

They are pretty pictures of lines and boxes and funny symbols that tell some people how a system works. For more info, read an electronics book (almost any electronics book will do),

That's just like my Motorola 6800 Microprocessor Applications
Manual. It has all these pretty pictures, lines, boxes
'n symbols to represent the actions and memory inside
the 6800.

Thanks,

i guess because nobody has said 'yes there are schematics', you can only assume that noone here knows of any (so thats effectivly a 'no')

and to Chris if he reads this;
close, but the unlike the 'virtual' concepts displayed in a cpu programming book, the shcematics in question would represent each and every electronic component soldered to the board - including what exactly each component is and its 'values' if they have any (eg the capacitence of a capaciter, model of transistors, numbers on the pins of chips so you know what pin connects to what). if you are smart enough, and can get all the parts, you can use scematics to build a new sms from the ground up!

Have fun getting those parts. There are, if memory serves, at least two custom chips on the board.

Well, to answer that guy's question. No, there aren't
any professional schematics to the SMS. Sega would
slaughter anyone who made one (suing). But, there's
tons of documents and source code at this place.
