Scans updates
Post Posted: Thu Sep 15, 2005 9:57 pm
I've set up a system that makes it hugely easier for me to add scans so I'll be aiming to add at least one item per day for a while.

http://www.smspower.org/scans/

Today is Brazilian RC Grand Prix from PrOfUnD Darkness. Happy viewing :)

Hey, here's an overlooked thread where I posted some scans:

They weren't overlooked... I have a bajillion scans waiting to go online, hence my "one per day" idea as a way to make it manageable and maintain momentum.

Added almost all the GG scans I have... lots more are needed, as you can see. And some more from the smaller sets I have sitting on my hard disk.

Added Brazilian Bart vs. the World from Aypok. Obviously, TecToy never actually played the games when choosing which to release.

Coolies :) I've got a bunch more sat on my hard drive, but had lost track of which I had or hadn't sent. I'll sort through 'em in the next couple of days...

Today's scans are some of those minor variations that are sure to drive collectors crazy. Seven new scans from Zone which are almost identical to other ones, except for (R) symbols on the Sega logo and the existence of the "Now, there are no limits" slogan. Do you have all three types of European World Soccer?

Here's a Phantasy Star variant I have:

I haven't seen it elsewhere, seems kinda rare. Notice the "4 mega" stuff isn't on the spine.

Well, it's a US non-Tonka version, and I'd guess it dates from before Tonka for no particularly good reason. It'd be interesting to compare to copies sold after Tonka's time in the US, presuming Sega didn't sell Tonka-branded games.

Today's is a better scan of Back to the Future Part II, from trol. Yes, not everyone who bought this game felt compelled to destroy it.

I missed a week or so, but I'm back on it... Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Double Dragon, Forgotten Worlds, Masters of Combat, Mortal Kombat II, Psychic World, Teddy Boy and Vigilante scans were added over the last two days.

Some Brazilian scans from PrOfUnD Darkness... the Desert Speedtrap manual I forgot to add when I added the cover a while back, F-16 Fighter again, GP Rider, and of course James Pond 2, which is far better than the recent GBA version.

I broke all the old links :) I'll see if I can fix them some time.

Meanwhile, as Bock mentioned elsewhere, I've added approximately 5000 bajillion scans - loads of books, manuals, etc, and a bunch of minor cover variations to drive all the collectors nuts.

http://www.smspower.org/scans/

So much added, you probably need to check the "old news" to see them all. And I still have loads more in my to-do folder!

I grabbed them all, I'll add them if they're at all different to existing scans. You might want to fix the link for Putt & Putter from

I meant the scans/incoming/ folder on my hard disk looked like

+- aRPi
+- idrougge
+- Kenneth
+- LLLL
+- MMMM

so Kenneth lost his prime position :) Yours will be added ASAP.

Well, my incoming scans directory is almost empty now (just two sets of scans that lack information about them), so feel free to overload me with more :) I also fixed it so the old direct links (above and elsewhere) work again, and messed with a few other little things you probably won't notice.

Just been looking at some of the new scans, and I suspect that one of the US Transbot card variants [the one without the Sega of America credit] is actually an Australian cover (same style as the Aussie Hang On & Great Soccer cards).

Could be, I wasn't sure at the time, since James Costello's description didn't mention a country.

Maxim, expect for a flood in your mailbox soon :)
I finally decided to move my lazy ass and submit you more stuff. oh, I just noticed that you uploaded the manual scans I submitted a long time ago. Nice work, but you wrote my name wrong :p

edit: or should I post them here, to save space in your mailbox?
http://rapidshare.de/files/31199187/GG_Cartridges.zip.html

to be listed as Tom (please fix my other scans).
when I submitted you the old stuff, I asked you for feedback, to know if they were good or not; I thought you didn't accept them, so I didn't make more up to now :(
I also have other manuals, I may do something more in the next days. for now, have fun with these cartridges ;)

Not just "Tom"? Yeah, I screwed up your name quite a lot... and I have no idea why :)... sorry...

Hmm, sorry about that too... I'm sometimes too busy to reply to emails for a few months, and sometimes I just grab the images and forget to read the text properly.

I see two scans from you in the archive - Pinball Dreams US manual and Sonic Spinball EU manual. Both are quite high-res, but suffer from moire, because your scanner is too well focussed, or it's resizing from its native scanning resolution badly. In other words, the solid colour areas look "spotty" instead of smooth, because the dots of ink on the paper are being resolved too well. This can be because (eg.) a 600dpi scanner is scanning at 300dpi by simply missing out the intermediate dots (nasty), or just because the original item is not great quality when viewed so closely. I'd be tempted to do some image manipulation to improve the quality - some kind of edge-preserving smooth is ideal, but dependent on the software you have available. It'd also help get better quality images for a given JPEG filesize. As it is, I'll be processing all the files you've sent because of this (and probably fix those 2 older scans).

For manuals, we'd rather have a full manual in medium quality than just the front page. Personally, I'd also rather see a complete scan set (cartridge, box and manual) than just a bunch of cartridges, but given the sorry state of the GG scan archive, I can't really complain :)

My mailbox is unlimited, don't worry about overflowing it.

Edit: it also helps to give me the region for the games, if you know it; I can guess a certain amount from the labels, but I'd prefer to make sure (and it helps Bock produce ggall.txt one day).

eh, I don't really know the regions... I bought all of them here in Italy, but it's obvious that some of them were from somewhere else (olympic gold lol).
I'll see what I can do with the manuals.

Added a map from Bock and some variants and TecToy games from Aypok, including a couple of full manuals.

Aypok wins the cookie for submitting the fist Spider-Man no-Marvel-credit scan I got to publishing (an alphabetically early nickname helps a lot) - unfortunately, it's just a phpBB forums browser cookie, but his is the only chocolate one.

I added loads of scans from James Costello over the last 2 days, including a lot of spot-the-dfference ones :) See also the third variation of credits on the back of the Spider-Man box, and lots more high-res TecToy scans.

GMail is somewhat better, but still limited - its restrictions are maximum 10MB total size and no executables allowed. I can send you an invite if you want. If there's a lot to send then CD may still be the way to go. That, or use the upload page (which has a whole other set of limits...) or somewhere like RapidShare (I'll be sure to grab the files quickly).
