[Museum] Defining game categories

Do you see any missing category ?
Action
Compilation
Family
Fighting
Platform
Puzzle
Racing
Role Playing
Simulation
Shooting
Software
Sports
I'm setting up the system so that each game can be part of several categories.
So for exemple:
Master Games 1 = Compilation / Puzzle / Racing / Sports
Alex Kidd: High-Tech World = Adventure / Platform
Most games would have only 1 or 2 category, thought.
It's often difficult to select between "Action" and "Platform". Where would you classify Kung Fu Kid ? What makes a platform game ? Should they be merged into "Action" ?

A platform game has a significant amount of gameplay involving jumping and running, and presents different possible routes through the level. A game like Streets of Rage has jumping but no alternative routes, so it is not platform; Shinobi is a fighting game with minor platform elements.
Action is a fairly lame term for games - pretty much every non-puzzle game has action otherwise it'd be dull to play. It does, however, help cover games that don't come under any other category, although I can't think of one that can't fit any other slot.
I'm not sure what the "software" category is for, unless that means "non-game".
Anyway, I'm sure the best way to find the limitations of these categories is to try to fit every game into them.

This is what Sega defined as "Family" games.

I think you could had "3d series" and "light phaser series". Light phaser games are all shooting games, but all shooting games or not light phaser games. Could be nice to add the precision.
Also, in all the catalogs I've got, alex kidd, wonder boy, psycho fox, zillion, dynamite dux, fantasy zone are classified as "sega heroes".
To conclud, power strike and operation wolf would be both "shooting games", but as you can see, they can't be classified in the same categorie.

Wasn't "ARCADE" also a category? Or do you not include that because most are just Arcade ports? I presume you're talking about the triangular logo in the top left corner of the case?

Adventure
There should definitly be an Adventure category. Some games like the ones listed below do not fall in to RPG or Action classification.
Aztec Adventure
Kings Quest
Lord of the Sword
Golvellius
Golden Axe Warrior
2 Player
I would also like to see a 2 Player sub category. Since we are doing a database for them, adding a sub category for multi player games would be nice.
