the removable back panel of the sms what was it for?

On the back of my sms there is a removable panel and inside there are metallic connections.

It has been soooo long since I've looked at my Sega Master System.. But if I remember, there was the Game Card slot, and then also a slot that was like a parralel slot.. I believe that it was were you plugged in the 3D glasses..

I think this is correct..

Well , actualy the 3d glasses plugged thru the gamecard slot . the pannel at the back was never used ... (sega planed some expantion capabilities) it`s unfortunate , as i would have liked to see things like they planed for the genesis , like a keyboard , light tablet (i think) , and disk drive . oh well...
