Sega's stance on it's older games.....
Post Posted: Fri Jul 30, 1999 2:55 am
I was going to mention this eariler, but I have been busy this week.

I thought this may be of intrest to all of you......

A friend asked me a question about the Dreamcast eariler this week, and I was
not able to answer it for him. So I called them and asked, and while I had
them on the phone, I asked to speak to somebody else and asked the
guy what Sega's stance on their older games was. I made sure to request
someone farily high up, so I could try to get a official answer.

I was informed that Sega does not care what happens to their SMS and
Gen games as they are old and no longer being sold. Futhermore, I
was told they do not care what happens to their older games......the
Saturn is still protected, but not the older systems.

So basicaly, they are saying that they don't care about ROM's. It's
fine to play all their older games.

I thought that the people who maintain this site and those of us who
like the games would be interested in knowing this. Sega is MUCH
more understanding of emulation as opposed to Ni****do, it seems.....

call them up again, tape the conversation (making sure both parties identify themselves), distribute the recording to several rom sites... etc etc ;)

this would mean The Dump could revive its big archive of genesis games, and if the IDSA complain (like they did to get the games removed in the first place), then give them a copy of that recording, and see what they say about it..

But would this apply to all games for the Md/SMS/GG, or just the ones made by Sega themselves?
