How to update Homebrew pages
Posted: Wed Jun 21, 2023 1:37 am

Hi,
Two competitions ago, I released Snepzhen Solitaire.
I have since made an update and have posted it in its forum thread. How do I go about updating the homebrew page, as that still links to the old version?
Cheers,
Joppy

You can either ask for access to edit the page (which will require some effort to learn how the wiki works), or post on the forums and hope someone else picks it up.

Okay, can I get access to edit the page?
Also, is there documentation available around best practices when editing homebrew pages?
Cheers,
Joppy

I think I added the right setting, do you see an edit link at the top right? If not I might have to grant wider edit rights.
There isn’t really any documentation. You should see various variables defined before the main page text; to upload a new version, just edit the version number and date and then save; then the download links will become upload links. The main page text is formatted using something similar to Markdown, although a bit different because it predates it.

Okay,
I have edited the page, updating the version number, date, and also updating the changelog.
However; when I click the link to the new filename to try upload it, I get the message that I am not authorized.

Seeing as I'm still running into permissions issues - Maybe it is easier if somebody else is able to upload the new version to the Homebrew page.
The new version's .zip file is already available in the forum thread.
Cheers,
Joppy

Done'd. Please note that I only uploaded the file you provided "as is", I didn't touch anything else.

Sorry for the double post, but I just noticed something weird: I don't see the editing toolbar on this Solitaire's page, while I see it normally on every other page on the wiki. Perhaps there really is something wrong with the permissions.

I was attempting to do something that would give page edit rights, but it doesn’t work as intended. I’ve undone it now.

I can confirm that I see the editing toolbar again now, thanks for the quick fix.
