Ripping SMS game music

Is there a way to rip the background music from a game? Not into wave format, but something like a midi. Maybe the games use midi format anyway?

I think the windows version of master gear can output to a midi file, though I've heard the emu is pretty bad. Then again, I've never tried it myself, so I really can't comment ^^

I've heard that SMSfan also can output to a midi file...but like master gear win, it's commercial, and I havn't felt much urge to buy it with massage and now Meka freely avaiable ^_^
