Lots of card games here. Also a joypad with mini-stick, but maybe that's a mod.

Sky Fighter (스카이 화이터) - MSX (1990)

Sky Fighter is one of Three games only known by a single screenshot in late Clover advertisements. The title screen makes it look like a shooter, but since no other images exist, it's impossible to be 100% certain.

Sky Fighter. A game so rare that the only picture of it on the Internet is the splash screen from an old Korean game magazine. The game was originally made for the MSX by a Korean company called 'Clover'. The copy I found is for the Master System (or Gam*Boy in Korea). I've actually had this for ages but totally forgot about it. Found it as I was organizing my room for the move.

Here is the splash screen. Didn't have time to play it this morning before work though. Just wanted to show it off

They're much worse than they look, very small and the buttons have a terrible feel.

I am going to make an offer since he is selling the game, tho I have the feeling he is expecting too much. I have savings on Paypal but would be happy with help, if you want to pledge a small donation you can private-message me.

the smaller size might not have been a problem for a kid but I see they took the corners out of the controllers and put them on the buttons. Who thinks squared buttons are a good idea

If all you're really concerned about is dumping the ROM, he's on my forums right now trying to figure out how to make that happen:

and seeing that there are some hundreds of MSX1 games, i really wonder if there are far more Taiwanese and Korean SG1000-converted games around, or how “easy” would be trying to do what they were doing in the 80’s - perhaps there are titles like Eggerland Mistery, Indian No Bouken, and etc. around.

Few Korean games. Only I own few but most of multi casette is MSX based but Korean company seemed write "Megarom" label for some SMS games. I have not the knowledge why. F-1 Spirit cannot using SCC-chip of Konami but this release rarely. I also one time see Parodius also not using SCC on SMS.

Here's an interesting video showing two versions of the Gam-Boy, one seems to be an older variant with an external PSU and controllers just like the official Sega ones. Perhaps that's the one with FM sound built-in?

BTW I bought a Samsung Gam*boy SPC-100 recently. No box or manuals, and only one controller (that one missing one of the buttons!) It has the console name printed on it in Hangul and the PSU is internal. The BIOS is the same one as in my MK-2000 (according to SMS Test Suite), it boots to Space Harrier theme and a message in Japanese after a Sega logo.

I use a top slot adapter so far and haven't cut the plastic yet to use the expansion port. Also haven't tried the card slot yet, since my Sega cards/MyCards are currently stored away.

Although the BIOS seems fully musical (so working FM I believe?) other games seem to always use PSG sounds only, no FM. Does anyone have an idea why that might be? Or is the Space Harrier BIOS able to play a full tune even in a no-FM system somehow?

Please let me know if more info is desired about this system, but I will otherwise assume it's a fully-documented type.

Edit: should mention here I also have an Aladdin Boy, black version with same BIOS other folks saw (Alex Kidd Korean version.) Again assuming no surprises in it but lmk if any info is desired

Not sure if this has ever been posted on the forum

Also, looks like there's been a big auction on a korean ebay-like two months ago with a bunch of master system games

Great find and interesting videos! Would have bought the Super Boy 1 game right away. I'm still missing this cover version.

I recently got a Korean 270-in-1 compilation, but the label and contents are completely different from the one mentioned earlier in this thread!

The cartridge label calls it 슈퍼게임 270합 ("Super Game 270 Total" maybe?) and the menu system title is 재미있는-270 ("Entertaining-270" perhaps? I still need to learn Korean, clearly — this might also be a reference to "Zemmix", the series of Korean MSX-based game consoles.) The picture on the label seems to be from Master of Monsters originally

The menu uses TMS video modes, and all the games I've tried so far appear to be modified versions of MSX originals, with references to non-Korean companies removed from title screens. I haven't yet figured out exactly where the text for the menus lives in the ROM image, nor what encoding is used

The cartridge works fine in Korean SMS, in Mega SG with adapter, and in no-BIOS Game Gear with adapters (and a wrong palette, of course, unless I hot-swap a GG2SMS ROM first to get the palette right)

I was also finally able to dump the ROM, after realizing (a) it uses a different mapper than those I have seen documented so far, and (b) it's 2 megabytes (16 megabits!) in size.

I've been able to get the first few pages of the menu system to load in Meka by pasting the appropriate ROM pages together in the right order, but the remaining ones still have corrupted graphics and I also haven't yet actually gotten the mapper system to work in Meka.

The mapper system is based on 8KB pages, similar to the ASCII-8 system but using different mapper register details. It's entirely possible it has features I don't yet know about, since so far I've only dumped the ROM but haven't yet gotten the contents fully functional in an emulator. There also seems to be a lot of mirrors for the mapper registers but I don't have that fully deciphered yet and also don't know whether anything depends on the mirrors.

The cartridge port region of the Z80 address space seems to be mapped as follows:

0x0000..0x1FFF: wired to 8KB ROM page index 0x00
0x2000..0x3FFF: page selected by mapper register at address 0x0200, initial page index 0xFF
0x4000..0x5FFF: page selected by mapper register at address 0x0100, initial page index 0xFF
0x6000..0x7FFF: page selected by mapper register at address 0x0300, initial page index 0xFF
0x8000..0x9FFF: page selected by mapper register at address 0x0000, initial page index 0xFF
0xA000..0xBFFF: page selected by mapper register at address 0x0200, initial page index 0xFF

One interesting feature: the same mapper register (0x0200) selects the same page at both 0x2000..0x3FFF and 0xA000..0xBFFF. I don't yet know whether anything depends on this page mirroring behavior.

Fingerprint info:

Those are re-releases of Korea Oaks Mark III games by the distributor Hi-Com, who distributed the Korea Oaks Mark III & Samsung Gam*Boy in Korea, so I would consider them official, certainly not bootlegs anyway. There's a picture of their catalogue in this thread.

I doubt that anyone else is that interested, but I always wondered who Korea Oaks was, and last year finally "cracked the case". I wrote up an article on Sega Retro here.

FA Tetris
This is another Tetris clone (not the same as Super Tetris).
Actually pretty decent

In case it was not already known, your FA Tetris cartridge and box both say

제조원: 하나엔지니어링 (jejowon: Hana Engineering, i.e. "Manufacturer: Hana Engineering")

Also that cartridge uses the exact same injection molding for the case as "128 Hap". Possible shared origin?

Pretty cool picture of someone playing with the Light Phaser at a 1992 korean game expo.
