Goonies rom, byte 57?
Post Posted: Tue Apr 26, 2022 8:17 am
Does anyone have The Goonies rom? (crc32 40414556).
I am interested in knowing the value of the 58th byte(address $0057).

Specifically, is it either $76 or $1A?
and how about The Circuit (crc32 1df0fc90) ?

Best than answering I suspect you are asking for a good reason (did you dump a variation of it?), can you clarify?

There are probable variations, the standalone one I dumped (not released yet) may not match the one in compilation. I even dumped another standalone that was different (need to investigate why it's not in the release queue). I'll check those soon.

I'm guessing it's an MSX port.

Do those ports usually have some form of hacked-up MSX BIOS grafted on to them?
(I imagine that's probably less ROM hacking work than actually re-coding the game proper.)
I would imagine that might depend on which BIOS the maker of that copy used as a donor.

I am trying to define a simple way to find out which roms require mapper 15, using meka's notation. At the moment, it seems the condition

rom[57]==0x76 || rom[57]==0x1A

is sufficient to discriminate these roms from other known sg-1000 roms.

Thank you very much. They indeed seem to be a completely different beast compared to the released ones.
