SMS Sega Card Numbers
Post Posted: Tue Apr 12, 2022 3:16 pm
I have been researching the different revisions of the Sega (My) Card in regards to the primary numbers on the fronts with an attempt to connect them to packaging.

US Card releases: All have English language back labels. Covers are either No Limits R or No Limits SM. SM being the earlier versions almost always come with the B suffix cards. Re-release with R covers come with A and M suffix cards. The K suffix only is found in US releases that I can tell.

F-16 Fighting Falcon
- 4005A (No Limits R)
- 4005B (No Limits SM)
- 4005M (No Limits R)
Ghost House
- 4002A (No Limits R)
- 4002B (No Limits SM)
- 4002K (No Limits R)

- 4001M (No Limits R)
Super Tennis
- 4007A (No Limits R)
- 4007BB (No Limits SM)
- 4007M (No Limits R)
Teddy Boy
- 4003B (No Limits SM)
Transbot
- 4004A (No Limits SM)
- 4004K (No Limits R)

European card releases. There are 3 main release types:
- General EU release has 5 languages on cover and English on card label.
- German releases have German language on cover and on card label.
- Italian releases have English language on cover and Italian on card label.

In regards to Canadian releases, all cards found seem indistinguishable from EU versions. There does not seem to be any labels or manual differences so Canadian cards were not tracked since I had no way to confirm they were not EU.

In regards to Australian releases, the same thing as Canada with exception of the Super Tennis shown above. As the only copy of EU Super Tennis with English cover was found in Australia as opposed to Italy.

And in regards to English covers only being used in Italy but with Italian manuals and card labels, or Australia with EU manuals and English card labels, I could find no compelling evidence that these were sold in UK, which seems odd to me. There was 1 item on UK ebay that had English cover and English label, but a single source can be evidence of piecemealing and so it was disregarded.

This presentation may not be ideal. I made a spreadsheet which can be *viewed* on Google Sheets. Do not bother to request edit permissions, they won't be granted. Instead you can post into here and I will update it as I am able.
