WLA-DX on Linux
Post Posted: Fri Nov 19, 2021 4:04 pm
So I decided its about time to put start putting something together for the 2022 competition (assuming there is one?) but its been a long time since I did any SMS Dev. I'm running Linux this time around, I don't have any Windows boxes to hand. I compiled and installed WLA-DX and just tried compiling the Hello World from Maxim's excellent tutorial.

It assembles just fine, but when linking, I get this:

$ wlalink -d -r -v -s hello.o hello.sms
hello.o:1: LOAD_FILES: Before file "WLAh" can be loaded you must define a group for it.

WLA-Z80 version is 10.1a, linker version is 5.16a

Anyone have any idea what this means?

I believe you need to pass a linkfile instead of an object file.

As contents for the linkfile you can do
[objects]
hello.o

Super! Thanks, that did it. Sorry I was having a senior moment there and not reading the batch file properly.

There’s always a competition, the only question is how well we organise it :) volunteers are welcome.

IMHO, i think that there is good stuff for competition have 2 dates in year. First: start in Feb to March;
Second: start Aug to Sep.

As an alternative, you could try to organize a game jam on itch.io

For a second event you could add more volunteers.

Supposing either options were taken; what would be required, and how much effort are we talking about, supposing the process is kept as lean as possible? More importantly, how many people would be interested in such a competition, and what would be a somewhat realistic deadline for such?

Let´s see. Considering just an hipotesis:
Code:
@haroldoop:
Dragon Blaster - A dragon themed shoot-em-up; Sub rescue;Tiny Caveman: a W.I.P. scrolling beat-em-up;Binary Gunner: a cybernetic score attack shoot-em-u
@Ricco59:
Do The Same
@siudym:simple platform game test

Hacks:
@Slogra: Sonic Genesis for Master System;
@xfixium: SMS Golden Axe Tyris Flare Edition ROM Hack
@tsp: Stella in Adventure World [AKiMW mod]

Music:

@Polariapoyon: Paprium Mini for Game Gear!

Of course im just supposing that these members would be interested in submitt any stuff. We could have more or few stuff (This are some examples of stuff posted after competition in March).
Portuguese:
Fala Haroldo! Beleza?
EDIT: The 2nd fase could start in 2 Aug and deadline 27 Sep.
