Game Gear Fully Recapped Mcwill Screen Black not turning on
Post Posted: Wed Mar 17, 2021 9:52 pm
Hi

I had a game gear to repair,it didn't power on at all but I did a full recap on it and now powers on, has sound but the screen was completely

I had a mcwill screen so I thought I'd fit that instead. After following the guide step by step I finished the mod but unfortunately screen still doesn't come on just black screen

I've checked all connections multiple times, checked voltage and continuity all looks fine

I've gone over it so many times now that it's all getting messy, I have other units to fit it to but just want to be sure I haven't made a mistake before I start on a new console

Please excuse some of the horrible sloppy soldering, I spent hours messing with it but I've checked all connections and are good

Ok I've completely rewired it with kynar wire, much cleaner and I also decided to use the correct instructions this time......don't......

It's now turning on so improvement, but there is distorted lines and colours are missing

Checked all connections looked fine but reflowed, all fine

Adjusted screen ribbon cable but still the same

Any ideas?

Should anyone have the same problem here's how I resolved it.

The issues was with the 6 wires connecting to the edge of the board where the old LCD connected

I scratched the surface of the vias above the 6 connecting pins and bridged the wires to them, problem solved
